Passed the
SCJP 1.4 today. I began preparing back in early July for the 1.2 exam, but in mid July I started to see that Sun was going to be offering a 1.4 exam. As you know there were not many materials out there for the 1.4 so I started off with the Sun Certified
Java Programmer 1.2 book by Syngress publishing. I skipped the chapters on AWT. This book was very useful, but there were several topics, which this book did not cover. I study the Java API, which were not covered in this book, and read through post on Java Ranch for other topics. I took mock exams from Dan Chisholm and Marcus Green, which were very helpful in monitoring my progress. Thanks Guy! After taking Marcuss mock exams (minus IO and AWT questions) I was averaging 80%. I scheduled the exam 3 days out from completing Marcuss mock exams, and I study troubled topics for me such as Threads and skimmed all other topic.
Now I only scored 67%, and 52% is passing, but you know what I passed. That is all that matters. I am part of the SCJP club.
Make sure you hit Threads heavily. I had a good bit of questions on that topic.
