Firstly, I am already an experience java programmer, so my method of study was to read a certification book as a refresher and then practice with some mock exams.
For study:
  • R&H book (1.2 version) gave a good refresher even though it was based on the older exam.
  • Java Ranch Rules Roundup.
  • Dan Chisholm (here) provides an excellent source of topic based exams, although I wish the comprehensive exams had a bit broader topic coverage (instantiation is a bit over done). The difficulty of the exams are excellent if you want to be thoroughly prepared.
  • Some of Marcus' exams (here).
  • JWhiz (here) is useful to get a feel for the exam.
  • Ivette Mestre also provided a useful summary here. It is probably useful to go through and highlight important points.
  • Don't worry about the lack of material on the 1.4 exam. The assert questions are easy. Just quickly read Sun's tutorial on assert and try them out for yourself. The rest is just more thorough testing of the fundamental knowledge.

  • Good Luck

Lionel, congratulations on your high score.
Yes, I should probably remove some of those instantiation questions.
Last week, I added a beta version of an assertions exams that is available only atthis link.
