This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
I passed SCPJ2 1.2 today 01/06 with 71%. I am a bit disapointed with my score, but the questions were hard in general. I wanted to share my preparation, since I learned a lot by reading other people posting their exam experience on this site.
/* Why 1.2 ? */ The reason is that I have been reviewing for over a year and I did not want to loose the time spent on AWT and IO.
/* The preparation : */ I have been using the following books for my study : RHE, Mughal's, Thinking in Java, Exam Cram, Java2Bible. Also Sun on-line JVM doc. My favorite is Mughal and R.Rasmussen's book.
Once I was done with the reading, I took the mock exams from all those books + the 3 of Marcus + JavaCaps + JCertify. The scores were between 60% and over 90% towards the end. However, last friday, I scored 72% on Marcus #1 which was amaizingly close to my % on the real exam. During the reading and the mock process, I made a lot of little programs to test topics that were unclear to me.
As a last review tool, I used Marcus's Certkey syllabus, and part of Velmurugan's note (do not miss the potential tips/traps from Ajith Kallambella).
/* The exam : */ As expected, a lot of Thread questions and OO related concepts. Some tricky questions regarding AWT and reference casting. IO questions were easier than expected.
/* Thanks ... */
... to Marcus, Dan Chisholm's advices (sorry I was running out of time to take your mock, but I will) and to all the people from JavaRanch. Good luck to everybody taking the test.
