I too passed SCEA part1 with 79% today. I thank
Java Ranch and WhizLabs for this. Without posting too many questions I got the answer to all the questions I wanted to know.
Now a coincidence: I got 79.17% in Whizlabs final test and 79% in the exam. Strange!
I have nothing to do with Whizlabs. In fact I live in Norway and heared of Whizlabs from this Java Ranch site. But I think the coincidence is worth mentioning!!!

HI Ratan,
Congratulations on passing SCEA Part - I.
Could you let me know what are the materials that you have used for the preparations.
I am intending to use the following materials
EJB by Monson Hafel
Patterns by Gang of Four.
UmL by Mark Cade.
Is that ok? Moreover i am concentrating on only the following patterns (i.e)
Factory,AbstractFactory,Singleton,
Builder,Adapter,Facade,proxy,
iterator,mediator and observer.
or do u need to go thro all the patterns. Please clarify.
Thanks & Regards
Vital.

Dear Vitalkumar,
Preparing for a test is a very personal affair, so my style and the books I used may not be suitable for you. The list of books you mention is probably as good as any other list.
I personally read much more than I needed because I wanted to make this test an excuse to learn the fundamental issues of J2EE architecture, irrespective of any test.
I used Mastering EJB (Roman), UML distilled (Fowler), SCEA study guide (Cade, Roberts) as the base.
I personally find GOF book difficult, because I don't know C++ and I am not very familiar with the old GUI programming issues GOF uses.
What got me into design patterns was "Design Patterns Explained" (Shalloway, Trott).
Finally after I had the base , the last 15 days I focused only on mock tests and Leo Craford notes.
But don't hesitate to follow your own style and feelings.
Thanks.
Rattan

Hi Premji,
I always go to SCEA page of Whizlabs site and click on recources. There I see links to all mock exam sites and Crawford and other notes site. That way I dont have to remember every link myself. I hope this helps.
Thanks.
Rattan
