This week's book giveaway is in the OCAJP 8 forum. We're giving away four copies of OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide and have Edward Finegan & Robert Liguori on-line! See this thread for details.
Is it possible to disable JUST the smilie so that it stops breaking the jdbcdbc references or map it to something else, or is it hard-coded into the UBB software? (I mean, how often do we need to show embarrassment?) ave
See the checkbox just under the edit window (above the "Submit Reply" button)? The one labelled "Disable Smilies in This Post"? It's kinda small, but it's there. Of course, it disables ALL smilies. [This message has been edited by Marilyn deQueiroz (edited November 08, 2001).]

We thought we did - evidently it doesn't work. (I just verifed.) The control panel has options for: HTML Allowed? UBB Code Allowed? UBB Code Images Allowed? We set the last to no, thinking this might disable smilies, but it doesn't - it just prevents use of the IMG tag. Neither does setting the second option to no - it prevents the use of all UBB codes (those inside brackets ), but not smilies. The only option I see to disable smilies is at the individual post level. It's possible that there's a way to hack the software to eliminate this particular smily from the list, but there doesn't appear to be any control panel option which will solve the problem. If someone were to make a JDBC FAQ, one of the items should probably be "don't forget to disable smilies when you post here".
