Whew. I resigned my commission as a state trooper two years ago to become an entry-level web designer. I landed my first Java position in January of this year. It was the "Rules Roundup" here at the JavaRanch that inspired me to take the SCJPtest. I had no experience with Threads, Assertions, or Garbage Collection principles (those percentages were reflected in my test results), but a few weeks of study online and with books were enough to help me survive the test. THANK YOU to JavaRanch for the inspiration and resources to help me make it through the test. I send words of encouragement to all the candidates out there - you can do it! My one tidbit of advice: Know the basic principles, and practice with actual code samples as much as possible. The mock exams are very helpful as well... Thanks again!
