Passed SCJD with thanx to everybody!

Hello guys,

I have just received my results for the SCJD assignment; I submitted the exam and did the essay only last weekend so I was surprised to get the results in little over a week.

My results were:

This report shows the total 1.4 SCJD points that could have been awarded in each section and the actual number of points you were awarded. This is provided to give you per-section feedback on your strengths. The maximum possible score is 400; the minimum to pass is 320.
General Considerations (maximum = 100): 88
Documentation (maximum = 70): 69
O-O Design (maximum = 30): 25
GUI (maximum = 40): 26
Locking (maximum = 80): 80
Data store (maximum = 40): 40
Network server (maximum = 40): 40

I am very happy with these results, I am a little curious as to the reasons why I scored low on the GUI and also the odd marks I lost for the Documentation, General Considerations and O-O Design, as I never would have thought I would have lost marks there.

But anyway at least I passed, and I didn't have to wait very long so thats the good thing.

I would like to thank everyone in this forum for your help, without it, the assignment would have taken considerably longer and I may even have not interpreted the instruction correctly! (Initially I wasn't planning to provide a means to allow the user of the server or client to choose a database).

Thank you all very much, it was really appreciated!

Best regards and good luck to you all with your assignments.

James.

Congratulations James!

Well done and a nice score. Don't let your questions about the lost points disturb your joy of a job well done!

Of course Jeroen is technically correct, but didn't we all post our results in this forum? I know I did. And personally I don't feel like this forum is disturbed by the "I passed" threads. On the contrary, I think it is nice to see that the people who post here finally passed their exams, so that we know that our good advice has helped them through

Maybe we should just change the rule? (Andrew: is this something you can decide?)

BTW James, I saw in another forum that you say you are just eleven years old. If that is true, then I think you made a truely amazing accomplishment!

On the other hand, I will have to withdraw by "beer hug" and replace it with

This has been discussed once or twice

Basically the rule exists for all certification forums, so we don't want to make one set of rules for SCJD and SCEA forums and one for every other SC... forum.

However there is also a tacit understanding that the forum members in SCJD and SCEA spend a considerable effort on the assignment, usually asking questions of each other and chatting to each other, so they also want to share their success. So we generally allow congratulatory messages to last for around 24 hours (give or take a few hours) before moving the thread.

Every so often these "I passed" messages generate a few questions about how parts of the assignment were handled. Those messages generally get left in this forum until the discussion dies down.

End result - Jeroen is correct, and I am not going to ask him to stop posting these comments. But I am not going to enforce the rule either.

Regards, Andrew

thanks Andrew. The problem of course is that the posting volume here is low and if all threads like this are allowed to remain they'd soon swamp the forum.
Moving them after a day or so is a good idea.

Hi Andrew,

That is fine with me. I think the status quo is a very acceptable situation! :-)

James,

I was keen to know which J2SE version you used? I have used 1.4.2_06 during my development. Now I dont see it available for download on Sun's site.

The latest one available is 1.4.2_08. I hope there would be backward compatibility. Did you have to face this problem?

thanks

11 years old? James, are you really 11 years old? Or is this some kind of a mistake / joke / hoax?
