Passed ....... barely!

I just passed the SCJP 1.4 with a 52%. That's 32 out of 61! Talk about lucky! Whew!

Several things contributed to my less than impressive score.

1. I was extremely nervous going in. Undoubtedly, this didn't help. When I did a quick run through of the questions, I saw some questions that looked very difficult and became even more concerned.

2. After I finished, I went back and changed the answers to at least 10 questions. I'm pretty sure that I corrected incorrect answers though.

3. I got several questions on inner classes on the test. Unfortunately, I didn't study inner classes very much!!! Fortunately, I got to the test site early. Since I was early, I got out my K&B book in the car and reviewed the section on inner classes in the parking lot. I think this was the difference between passing and failing.

4. I got the impression that the test was easy. Everyone on this form seems to make 80-90%. I thought that the test was going to be a breeze. It wasn't! It was way harder than I thought! I therefore did not study very much. (I did purchase and read the K&B book and I would definitely recommend reading it).

Anyway, I hope that helps someone.

Being certified is like being pregnant - either you are, or you ain't, and you my friend, are. (certified, that is. Not preggers)

Yes, many that get an 80 or 90 posts it here, and as you could imagine, they are mighty proud of it. More people fail the exam than pass it, and more people pass with 55% than 85%, but you wouldn't know that by the postings.

It's not an easy exam. It's not an easy exam at all.

Cheers!

Congrats Nikki!

And I agree with Cameron - if you just look at the JavaRanch results forum you get an unrealistic impression that these exams aren't as hard as they really are! Tons and tons of people don't pass, so any pass is a fine result!

i too agree with cameron ,
people say it easy because they put some efforts to pass exam, and efforts turn out in these sayings,

and you also saying it is not hard, that is true because you have put efforts and you are a SCJP now!!
cheers!!

Does it really matter to a prospective employer or client what the actual score is for the SCJP test, or is just passing it impressive enough? Does the certification even mention the actual score?

well done nikki...!! congratulations on passing...!!

and ya, dont worry about the scores, passing the exam is more important. i'm saying that because i myself have passed SCJP with a not-so-great score of 65%.

but it doesnt really matter. what matters is the fact that you are a Sun Certified Java Programmer now.

Congratulations once again...!!
