As you could tell from the subject I barely failed the SCJP 5.0 exam . I had no strong area and no week area on the exam, all my objectives were between 50-60%. I know I have to wait two weeks to take the exam again, and was wondering what is the best way to tackle this the second time.

I study at work every day (I have to get certified before I get put on a development team) so I have roughly 70-80 hours of study time ahead of me.

I am willing to take any suggestions to help get this information stuck in my head.

I've already went through the K&B SCJP 5 book, have been on the forums here constantly, read through the java docs for anything I felt I didn't understand from the book, and in all have over 100 hours of studying for this test under my belt.

Thanks in advance.

Use Whizlabs SCJP 5.0 Exam Simulator and then re read K&B book again until you pass the Whizlabs Mock test and reread the chapter based on Whizlab test! you will score to pass! Don't rush until you feel comfortable and score good in Mock test!
Good luck!!!

Cheer up Justice!

You can do it!

In addition to the above information, read the "Two-minute drill" at the end of every chapter.

All the best

First of all I appreciate you humbly posting your result. I'm sure that you can crack it the next time with an amazing score. Read K&B book throughly and do as many mocks as you can.

Hi Justice,
Read the K&B book once again thoroughly. If you have doubt post your questions in the SCJP forum. There are many to help you. When you have finished give some mock tests and specially the two exams provided with K&B. You will pass this time surely. So, all the best

Regards
Nik

I agree with Jothi Shankar Kumar...give as many mocks as you can. The first mock itself will tell you your weaker areas. Read those areas well.

Most importantly, sometimes we just overlook some questions and miss out on some minor mistakes in the code. Give time to every question even if the code is short and seems simple.

Some questions can fool you by presenting a very complex logic but there might be a simple, minor thing like accessing a private member or a non-static variable from static method.
Read them very carefully...think you are a compiler (well...that seems funny...but this is how you need to solve SCJP questions...hope people would agree with me).

And...you said 'I went throught the K&B...'. Just don't 'Go though the book' but 'Read it' and 'Understand it'

All the best

Hi Justice,

As Jothi said, appreciate the nature for the post. Just be confident on whatever you do! If possible, just prepare your own notes which is something of "Flash Cards" so that you can re-iterate/re-collect the important points.

Also read the two minute drills + exam watch topics on K & B book carefully in such a way that you dont miss out any points.

Well said. Please follow the same as well.

Good luck for your exams and Surely, you will get it!

Best Wishes!!

41/72... 56%... Did worse by one question this time around.

I'm putting 5.0 on hold for now because I have to be certified for my job. I have about 150 study hours put into 1.5 already. What new do I have to learn for 1.4 that I didn't have to on 1.5 (and what do I not have to worry about).

I have already been to the sun website and have the list of objectives, but they are not specific enough as to what I need/don't need to know compared to the 5.0 exam.

Consider purchasing the online practice exams from Sun ($75).

Sun e-practice exams

You get a set of 3 exams. The questions reflect the real level of difficulty. K&B can help you get a higher score, if you put in the effort.

The other advice I would offer is that when you miss a mock exam question, write a little Java program to test out the concept - we wrote hundreds of little programs while we were working on the book - it really helps!

Start you preparation once again as if you are preparing for the first time.Take time to complete the exercise in the chapters(K&B Book).
Give the mock exams throughly and then try to investigate the reason for the wrong answers.Give proper time for correction.Do not guess any answers in the mock answers.

All the best!
