I have cleared SCWCD with 82% at the age of 12 Years and 3 Months. This makes me probably Youngest Sun Certified Web Component Developer.

I had cleared my SCJP in August 2005. I put in 4 months of dedicated preparation for SCWCD. At times I used to put in about 10-12 hours daily. I do not have any experience in JSP and Servlets. I would like to seek help of my co-ranchers if they can help me get some real-life experience.

However, I would like to gain some experience during my summer vacations in May and June.

Now, I have to prepare for my Annual Final Exams that are due to start in March.

As posted here before :
1. HFSJ is must for passing this exam. It is a superb book and everything is explained so well that I did not have any problem in understanding. But, design patterns are not covered well in HFSJ. For design patterns I read SCWCD Exam Study Kit by Hanumant Deshmukha and Jignesh Malaviya. Design Patterns are very well covered in this book. Before I read the book I used to hardly score 15-20% in Design Patterns but once I read the book and Sun's notes on Design Patterns my score touched 80% in this topic. I read the book three times, first time to know about the whole course, second time thoroughly making notes, third time was revision.
2. I read specs and API. This is very important because I had some tricky questions and because I had gone through specs and API I could easily answer them.
3. I regularly visited Java ranch and followed various suggestions given by various friends on this ranch.
4. I did mock exams of Whiz labs and Enthuware. They were really very good and worth the price. I got lot of confidence in doing these mocks. I also did mock exams of Java ranch, Anand Chawla Mock Exams and J2EE certificate mock exams. Besides, I did mock from HFSJ. After doing every mock I used to go through the whole answers thoroughly properly understanding each explanation to know if the answer if wrong then why it is wrong and if it is correct then is there any point that I am missing.

This is what I could briefly would like to advise my other co-ranchers.

When I was 12 I got to level 19 in Tetris, but I'm not sure if I was the youngest.

Your achievement was much more constructive than mine. Congratulations, Dishaan!

Level 19 ? The kind of level where blinking makes you lose ?
You're tough

About the 'youngest' mania,
how do they know they are the youngest one ?
Do they receive something ? "Congratulations, you're the youngest one".
And six months later, "Sorry but, a younger kid passed it. Try again".
I wish I were 12 again

Dishaan, good luck for your studies,
and don't forget to have fun too
Just a question: who pays the fees ? I mean, it's $150.

Hi Satou,

Thanks for your encouragement.

I keep a schedule wherein I do various things for fun too. But, when it is study time I study seriously with complete focus and when it is playing time I play.

Like I am fond of playing computer games. Right now I am on GTA San Andreas. I have lots of friends too. I am also pursuing Taekwando (Korean Martial Arts). I am also fond of TV. I see few Indian programs on the TV. I like to watch movies.

My parents and family is very co-operative. They support me fully in all my endeavours.

Thanks

Wow!!! Dishaan

At 12 you could understand JSPs and Servlets. At 21 I am finding it really difficult to cope.

Thank you very much for your kind encouraging remarks. Mr.Bert Bates, Mr.Marc Peabody, Mr.Agrah Upadhyay and others. I am really grateful to the ranch for all the help and encouragement.

As regards my other hobbies I love reading books especially on Science fiction and World War II. Like some of the books I have enjoyed reading are : My Life by Bill Clinton; Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the sea; The Diary of Ann Frank; Europe 1880 -1945.

I am also pursuing Oracle 10G. I am doing this course at NIIT.

I am also fond of Mathematics. I have won few Gold Medals at National level Mathematics Competitions.

As regards plans right away after I finished my exams and finished my home work. I had a good time with my friends and played lots of games. Now, I have to prepare for my final exams that are due end Feb. I have been a consistently top student scoring 95%+ marks and I get several prizes for academic excellence every year. If I don't do well My Mom will skin me alive (Just joking she is very co-operative and helpful).

For long term plans I intend to do Computer Engineering at MIT or Stanford.

Regards,

Dishaan

Hi Dishaan

I am preparing for SCWCD. Like you I also do not have any experience in JSPs and Servlets. I have started preparing since last 15 days. Can you advise me how much time would I take to complete the same. Also, can you guide me more about the preparation strategy.

Hi Dishaan,
I really appreciate you on this. Keep up this good work and try to do lot more innovative things apart from writing certifications exams.

What do you want to become in your life? why did you do this certification? Share your thoughts with all of us.

Thanks,

Hi Niraj,

For time to complete the course for SCWCD. I feel if you put in about 4 Months you will be able to prepare yourself appear for this exam. But, you need to thoroughly read HFSJ and understand each and every point very well. YOu may seek help if you are not able to understand any particular point. Please also do make notes when you are reading. It is also very important that you should read specs and API as mentioned by me earlier. This will help you to understand thoroughly the subject. Very Important you should read the exam objectives and accordingly prepare yourself and read specs and API based on this. After you are through with your preparation it is very important to do mocks as it help you to evaluate yourself where you stand and gives lot of confidence. for e.g. after I did mocks I realised that I was weak in Design Patterns. Therefore for that I searched various sources and realised that I need to read Sun's notes and Hanumant Deshmukh for this topic. Above everything be a regular visitor at ranch. It will help you a lot.

Regards,

Dishaan

Thank you very much Mr.Jitender for your kind encouragement. As I have mentioned in my previous mails. Computers are my passion. I want to do Computer Engineering at Stanford or MIT.

For Certification, actually it started with my interest in playing Computer Games. I got to know that Java is used in making Computer Games. I got Java How to Program by Deitel. I really got very interested in Java programming. I really liked program of "Towers of Hanoi". To test myself and to get more confidence I appeared for SCJP. I cleared the same. To further my knowledge I went in for SCWCD. I cleared. This certification is giving me lot of confidence as I have to study on my own. I only have books, internet that's it. I stay in Lagos, Nigeria where it is not easy to get so much help on this. It helps me in improving my capability of understanding technical things.

Can you please guide me how to get real life experience. I am really interested in that. I am planning to go to US for summer vacations starting in May.

Java Geek.

Good luck with your Java and Taekwondoe too. I used to do that when I was 16. I did it 2.5 years. I ended-up on red belt. I have also won regional and provincial championships. I am still lovin it.
