Hi Fellow Ranchers
I cleared the SCBCD EE5 exam yesterday ... lets just say I passed and got certified!
My exam preparation strategy(Fast-Track approach) and some tips, if needed:
- I read the Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 book by O'Reilly once initially and then studied from the same book (as well as underlining the important and exam oriented points in the book - this notes came handy for the last minute revision).
- Was studying for 2 weeks averaging about 3 hours each day. Read all of the syllabus specific chapters twice in this time frame.
- Read the notes by Mikalai Zaikin. Thanks Mikalai for compiling the notes for us. Your efforts are truly appreciated!
- I did not refer any mock exams or question dump, but had a look at the sample exam questions provided by Sun on their website. But I do recommend taking the mock exams as much as possible to score better in the exam. I did not have time for this (appeared for the exam on the last day of voucher validity
- Specifically target Transactions & Exceptions and Timers & Interceptors sections. There are some really tricky questions from these sections. I felt that the Session Bean and Entity Manager related questions were easier. Got decent number of questions from Security and
EJB Roles. There were no drag-and-drop types for me. Also, did not get much Annotations/XML deployment/syntax related questions.
- Having said that, I have more than 8 years of J2EE experience. Had worked on EJB 2.1 Session Beans (NO Entity Beans) for 4 years about 2 years back. So those coming from EJB 2.1 background - You maybe need to unlearn some concepts first and get used to new things like Annotations, ORM and dependency injection.
Hope these points help.
Kathy and Bert - You must have got used to hearing this, but we are desperately waiting for the Head First EJB3 book!!!
I will be following this
thread for the next couple of weeks.
Next target - SCDJWS 1.4 !! Wish me luck !!!
