Hi ,

Today i have passed the SCEA 5 part I exam.

Anyone planning to give exam will definitely benefit from some practice of fast reading. (as suggested by Rodrigo )

I felt that reading questions only would take lots of time as questions describe problem scenarios in length.

I have used whizlabs simulator for the mocks, and its quite in line with the actual exam.

Though actual exam is way tough, and lengthier questions really put some strain on time. Forget about time for review, i could barely manage 5 mins to review.

Also i have noticed that nothing very difficult or very minor details is asked but its really about for given problem what technology or combination of technologies suits best and for what reasons.

Thank you javaranach and all of you for sharing & helping with the preparation.

P

Congratulations!

Could you please share what preparation materials you have used for exam.
Also how long have you been preparing for exam? What is your expertise level?

Thank you.

Thank you all.

This is what i have used for the preparation.

SCEA for J2EE Technology Study Guide - Mark Cade & Simon Roberts

JAVA EE Tutorial

Core Security Patterns

Core Design Patterns

Design Patterns Explained Alan Shalloway & James Trott (This book is a good start to understand core patterns then one can switch to Gang of Four)

Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software - G4

http://java.boot.by/scea5-guide/ (First two chapters)

http://java.sun.com/javaee/ (General browsing of FAQ, Technology section gives a good idea of overall J2EE & RESTFUL webservices)

There is one book which is not directly related to the exam objectives but can give a very good idea about IT architecture, and i will strongly recommend it though its not one of those very exciting books.

IT Architectures and Middleware - Chris Britton

The questions asked in the exam were totally covered in the above reading.

One cautious note - There are several links posted in the forum and on internet, most of them are not up to date for SCEA 5 and one can save time by sticking to the books posted here or by the Cameron.

Two month of preparation is what i required for myself, first month being lighter and with second month being intense and studying for atleast 3-4 hrs a day.

I have 9 yrs of exp with some architectural.

Hello Prashant,

When you that questions were scenario based so out of the 64 questions how many were scenario based ? All ? or 50 %?

Any input is highly appreciated..
