From what I understand, our host, EJIP.net had a hard disk crash on the box that JavaRanch lives on. This particular box did not have a raid drive, but EJIP is now looking into raid drives. They also had some trouble finding the backup. Naturally, all of their people were with their families over the holidays, so it took a while until things could get working again. Right now the forum category stuff is a bit messed up and I'm trying to fix that. If you find any other problems, please post them here!
It's all my fault. Every year for the last several years two things have happened: 1, I took my annual vacation. 2, while I was out, the departmental server would blow out. Two years ago last, we ran RAID 0 and lost one drive. Last year, I switched it to RAID 5 and we lost TWO disk drives! This year, ALLTEL laid me off and stuffed the old server in a closet, so when the "Holiday Gremlin" came to town for its annual visit, it must have got frustrated and searched my web browser history for some other server to attack I'm really very sorry about that. I hope everyone had a great holiday season, from Ramadan to Hari Raya, Christmas to Kwanzaa, Channukah, Yule, or whatever reason for solisticial joy you may have.

Glad to have Javaranch back! A couple of my posts, posted on Saturday(12/22) seems to be missing. But that's okay. It was in the Meaningless Drivel anyway! Hema
Well, at least the forum's back. Who am I fooling? I suffered violent tremors and intense nausea without my JavaRanch fix. I hope they managed to break one of those 99% uptime gaurentees or something equally poetically just.
Here I thought my work had a plot against me. To block my access to JavaRanch. I thought I was about to be fired. Well I guess not. I am still here and the Ranch is back. But what happened to the Web Developer Exam Forum? Mark
