The BEA Certified Specialist: Server certification is geared toward individuals who want to qualify their competencies as J2EE developers on BEA WebLogic Server. The individual who is certified with a BEA Certified Specialist: Server certification usually fills the J2EE-specified roles of Application Assembler, Deployment Specialist, and Enterprise JavaBeans developer, as defined in the J2EE specification.
The Application Assembler is responsible for developing Web-based presentation components and linking them to the business logic components.
The Deployment Specialist is responsible for configuring and deploying all component and service resources for Web Applications to the WebLogic Server 7.0 environment.
The Enterprise Bean Provider develops EJBs that typically implement business logic or data for a particular application domain.
It is expected that an individual with the BEA Certified Specialist: Server certification can do the following: Install and monitor WebLogic Server
Develop and deploy Web Applications that use Enterprise JavaBeans and service technologies, design patterns and the Model-View-Controller design architecture
Develop and deploy Enterprise JavaBeans on WebLogic Server
Monitor Web Applications and Enterprise JavaBeans on WebLogic Server
To attain the BEA Certified Specialist: Server certification you must do one of the following:
Pass a third-party proctored exam hosted by Prometric.

Attend the mandatory courses (WLS-D11 and WLS-D21) and one elective course (PLAT-01, WLS-D29, PLAT-D31, PLAT-R41, PLAT-R42, or PLAT-R43). If you already have the competencies taught as part of a mandatory course for a certification AND you have not previously taken that course, you can elect to opt-out of up to one course. To opt-out of a course, you must submit an article on a pertinent topic relating to the course you are bypassing.

I think it is more of Oracle where you have to take mandatory courses.

That means, hereafter BEA certification will be too expensive.
These days our companies do not pay for certification

this new program is stupid and insane, it's actually downgrading the value of bea's certs, why:
1) fewer ppl can afford to get it (look at the total price in $X,XXX.00), then the recognization will be poorer;
2) for rich guys who can still attend the classes, i doubt how many of them really care about the certs or have enough habds-on expr or knowledge. the certs will become the papers you get after completing a class in the old days. i saw too many ppl sleeping during classes / skipping days.
3) the opt-out is a joke.
4) this new policy is harder to believe than oracle's, after all, for oracle, it's a good cert and it's only 1 class.
i seriously doubt bea edu's business plan and if they can make any more $ from this change.

I read about the change in the program. It seems like a good change -- that is either take the 3 courses or take the prometric exam like before. If I had the money, I'd take the courses but for now, I'll just take the exam.

If still **just** exam option is available (like the old exam), where is the exam objectives for the new exams?
Should we have to wait for more info from BEA? :roll:
