Curiously BEA has two methods to achieve their certifications. Attend some of their traning programs. Here marking your attendance(?) leads to certification. Unless you are sponsored by your employer, you are unlikely to take this route.
The second method is the 'traditional' method i.e. exam through Prometric with a certain passing score.
You may prefer to look up the details @ http://certification.bea.com/certification/index.jsp
Best wishes

And second one holds more value as the first can be achieved by anyone who just takes the course!

Please note that Weblogic has many different certifications.
As of today, only one of those certifications(Server) can be gained by passing the test at prometric or by completing the course. All the rest of the weblogic certificates can be acheived only by completing the proper courses.
And regarding the value of a certificate, I think it only matters how much knowledge you have at the end of the test or course, not the mode in which you got the certificate.

I agree. In fact those who can write and achieve success
on the exam without having to spend the money to take courses
have more value to a company than the person who requires someone
else to train them. If you are an employer do you want someone you have to send to a 5000 dollar course to educate or someone who can learn a product or technology independently?

Dinesh,
For gaining the knowledge, one doesnt even have to take any course or pass any certification.
The value was compared on the basis of value in the market. In market, exam based certificates are valued more than course based certificates.
