Hi all,
Today I am very lucky!!! I passed IBM 484 extremely marginally. Many thanks to people who helped me here, especially Howard and Ko Ko.
Below is the breakdown score:
1. J2EE Architecture: 7 out of 10
2. Web Component Development: 8 out of 11
3. EJB Development: 8 out of 15
4. Client Development: 4 out of 5
5. Connectivity Services: 5 out of 11
6. Assembly and Deploymeny: 4 out of 4
My study focuses on JSP, Servlets and EJB only.
I used the following books:
SCWCD Exam Study Kit, by Hanumant Deshmukh
HeadFirst EJB, by Kathy and Bert
I used the following Exam Simulators:
JWebPlus
EJBPlus
Although it is not a great score as I totally gave up the sections for JDBC, JAXP, JAAS, JMS and JCA. Those questions are not trivial, and I think some of them even tricky.
I used conventional ways (study with the path of SCWCD and SCBCD), however, some of the JSP/Servlets and EJB questions there have not been addressed in SCWCD Exam Kit and HF EJB, and thus, you may need other references (Especially those MDB related).
Anyway, best wishes to those who are going to have this exam.
I need to move on to SCMAD, which I will take it on 25 Feb.
Nick.

Thanks Ko Ko.
In fact, I can have more time to prepare IBM 484, however, SCMAD beta breaks out suddenly.
Thus, I used 3/4 of my time to study SCMAD, while 1/4 of that for IBM 484. I totally have no time to revise too Connectivity part.
Anyway, I hope you will pass it soon. It is not that difficult if you have time to well-prepared, especially tricky EJB part and Connectivity part.
Nick.

Hi Howard,
Many thanks.
In addition, I would like to ask, since my vouchers expire on 31 Mar, and I have 2 exams rest (287 and 486).
Intentionally, I will start 486, and take it at around 10 Mar. At 1st, I want to take 287 first, but still, I am waiting for your book.
Any suggestions for 484? I will use Larmen's book as the core reference, and read fowler's if time is allowed. Am I in the right track?
Nick.

Hi Nick,
I like Fowler's book better, because it's distilled. I still like Larman a lot so don't get me wrong. It's just that it's so big. Also, as you may be aware, the 486 test has many scenario based questions that are meant to test you ability to apply good domain analysis skills as well as the overall development process. It's not just about UML notation, although that does figure in. I found the 486 test to be quite comprehensive. Enterprise developers with real world experience know the old story with regard to OOAD: Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Congrats, Nicholas!
good job!
I'm also preparing for 486 now. I've read Fowler's book and now reading Larman's one. Larman's book is very detailed and not easy to read, but it's worthy of it. I've looked through the sample questions - they are not very hard, so I think we'll sort it out

Hi Serge,
After you have read both books, Fowler's and Larman's, which one you feel it is more easier to read and understand?
And which should be enough for the exam? Howard did tell me that Larman's book maybe too detail, and after I read 5 chapters, I also have that feeling.

Good score Nicholas. I also passed 484 with 64%. I took it earlier than I normally would have done, so as to give me more time for 486, 287 before the end of March.
For 486, I have been reading Fowler 2 or 3 times a week for the last month. Larman is a great book, but harder than Fowler. I look forward to reading it more leisurely once the exam is over. I have read some of the chapters many times, others not so much. I have now made a list of the chapters I feel I need to concentrate on. I think I'm less than 2 weeks away from taking the exam. Also, Cuellar notes are very important. I try to go through them at least once a day.
For 287, I have Howard Kushners book, and have read half of it so far. Its a good read. I'm hoping I've got enough time left after 486 to pass this.

Hi Ramon,
I am also thinking to swap to Fowler's book. I will decide which reference to be used this week.
I will also use Howard's book as my main reference for 287, however, I am still waiting for the book.
I wish the book can arrive to my hand before Mar 10, so that I can have more time to read and prepare.
Nick.

Hi, Nick,
I think you may skip Fowler's book if you're familiar with all types of UML diagrams. However, I would recommend to look through it since you'll need all those details on the exam.
