Looking at the no of people sharing 486 exam I wil suggest to have a separate forum for it. What do others say about it?
Another popular area is websphere certifications.
Jason: Please give your inputs.

Hi Shalbha,
It is difficult to say. In fact, I feel IBM is not really that popular in cert. world as it is a vendor-dependent exam.
You can see from the promotion. For SCWCD 1.4 beta and SCMAD 1.0 beta, there are around 600 people to take part in.
For IBM exams, even though IBM gives out 2000 vouchers (for most of their important products, like XML, ICED, WebSphereMQ, etc), but still not all vouchers are given out, and the rest vouchers are finally be transfered to another promotions.
Honestly, if IBM does not give me free vouchers on ICED, I definitely will not rush to take the 3 ICED exams. At least I wont try to finish it within 1 month.

Moreover now the fact that IBM do not give the hard copy of the certificate I am sure not many people will try to go for IBM certifications.

Hi Vijay,
Dont mention about the certificate!!!
I even cannot receive the e-certificate after getting ICED!
I dare say, if this certificate is NOT with such a cost, I definitely wont torelant such responses!

Except that IBM's never offered a certificate for the 486 exam. It's always been part of one of their roles.
I think it might be a benefit eventually to make a separate forum for OOAD certifications, both IBM's 486 and the OMG exams, given the constant interest in such, but at the moment, is there really sufficient demand for them?

While it may look like there are a lot of people going for this cert compared to others in this forum, the amount of posts for that exam compared to the rest of the forums is very, very small. This forum is one of the least frequented compared to others, and breaking it apart even further would just add extra work that isn't needed.
The suggestion is appreciated, but I think things forum-wise will stay the way they are, at least with product certifications. However, some people did start putting together a FAQ, which I hope should help people the same way a separate forum would (specifically, addressing answers to frequent questions).

Simply search from this forum, and you can find lots of posts regard this exam.

Sorry that this site does not provide any dumps. You can discuss any questions here, but NOT asking for dumps for the exam.

Does anyone know the role or roles that the IBM 486 is a part of? I can't seem to find that on their site. I'm trying to decide if I should go for the IBM cert (whatever it is called), or the Sun Architect cert. I've heard that one of the IBM cert's (or roles) includes successful completion of the Sun Java Programmer test - but again, navigating the IBM cert site does not answer my questions.

You should look up the information about ICED.

Another post has discussed this as well.

No !

"Note: Once you receive a certificate by email, you may also contact IBM at certify@us.ibm.com to request that a hardcopy certificate be sent by postal mail." stated in the IBM Home Page.

The purpose of people to take IBM UML Test (486) is to get the IBM Certified Enterprises Developer v5 (ICED). You need to collect 4 score sheets for this certification. They are SCJP, 484, 486, 287. Only score sheet for test 484, 486 or 287 alone is not subject to any certification. You need to collect them ALL.

Assume you will have Tiger SCJP and Test 486. You can take another two tests in next promotion if they are not withdrawn.

I would say, it is better to check the cerified requirements before you decided to take an exam or a series of exams.
