Just back from the exam center.

Passed IBM 700: DB2 UDB v8.1 Family Fundamentals today with 96%, below is the details:

Planning: 87%
Security: 100%
Accessing DB2 UDB data: 100%
Working with DB2 UDB data: 94%
Working with DB2 UDB objects: 100%
Data Concurrency: 100%

The exam is not that difficult. I refer to the book:
DB2 Universal Database V8.1 Certification Exam 700 Study Guide - by Sanders

This book is written in an exam oriented manner. There are 6 chapters, which discuss the 6 exam objectives one by one. At the end of each chapter, it contains some sample questions.

Guess what! Those sample questions are extremely simliar to those in the real exam!!! Unbelievable!!! Some questions even ask the same question, while only the wordings differ!

Anyway, best luck for those who go for the same way.

Nick

congrats nick.
As on tuesday I will have 2nd customer which is heavily into db2 and according to IBM certification site the V7.1 user test is o.k. for version 8 developer and admin certification I am thinking about taking those. Certification is justified from healthy sharpen_my_db2_skills standpoint and healthy makes_sense_for_work standpoint.

For 703 there are 2 good books from same series as that you used for 700. Don't know if my boss will buy with company budget as I've really ordered quite a few books last months with this budget.
At lest its in oreilly safary. Or I buy myself.

The book for 701 has very bad review on amazon.
Do you know any other material for 701 except the 7-part tutorial series from db2-developerworks?

There are 2 ways to get ICDBA:
1. ICDA + 701
2. ICS (DB2 7.1 User) + 706

Personally, if you work with both v7 and v8, the 2nd path is better, as you have knowledge on both version, and you know the new features for v8. However, since I am working for v8, and the books purchased by my company are v8, thus, I simply go for v8.

I do agree. The best way for learning a new thing is to get certified.

Which book you are refering to?

I will use DB2 Universal Database v8 Application Development Certification Guide, Second Edition.

Which book you mean? I will use the book:
DB2 Universal Database V8.1 Certification Exams 701 and 706 Study Guide - by Sanders , as I feel the bool DB2 Universal Database V8.1 Certification Exam 700 Study Guide is very good.

Are you refering to the book:
DB2 Universal Database V8 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration Certification Guide (5th Edition) - by George Baklarz, Bill Wong ?

I have also read this, but I feel the book is not so good becos the style of writing. It mess up everything!

That's why, after passing 700 using Sanders' book, I decided to use Sanders' book for 701 as well.

Hope this help.

Nope, as I am still in the stage of ICDBA. I will read the review, after passing 701 or 704, as I am still thinking of which to go first, 703 or 704.

I just feel if the book is enough to be passed, it is good. But I am not sure, if we dont use that book, whether there are other books for 703.

You buy first

Nope. I havent purchased any books. All books are borrow from the mini cert-library of my company.
There are 2 whole sets of all IBM DB2 cert books.

You may get all info you needed from the IBM site.
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/certs/dbdbudb81.shtml

Thus, you are ICS (DB2 v7) already?

Good luck to your exams.

I dont think there are any free mock exams on the net. Maybe you should consider to buy Sanders' study guide, as it is really the only source you need to master this exam.

Best luck for your exam.

Hi, Mr.Nicholas Cheung:

Are you in the USA? If so, do you mind selling the DB2 book for Exam 700 that you recommended? Did you take Exam 701 as well?

Regards!

No.

The books were purchased on behalf of my company, and thus, I cannot resell them.

Did you take Exam 701 as well?

Yes, I took it last year, one week after passing IBM 700.

Hey, Nic:

Thanks for the prompt reply, I appreciate it!
I am currently preparing the exam 700. Besides the book that you recommanded, do you have any other recommendation? like practice/mock exam, discussion forum, books, and other resources?
I just passed exam 340, WAS Admin exam, and I got a voucher from IBM certificate website. Do you know any deal like this?

Appreciate your help! Have a nice weekend.

What you need is just that book. At the end of each chapter, there are 15-20 sample questions, and these questions are extremely similar to the real questions, because the author is one of the exam makers.

So, it is worth to buy his book!

What do you mean by that? What exam you have passed? The ICE/Prime test? I have just taken IBM 348 on Thursday, and I have passed it as well.

Best luck to your exams.

Hi, Nic:

Thanks for your information. I will go ahead buy that book!
The Exam 340 is for Wabsphere Application Administration, V5.0, I passed the exam last week, so now I am IBM certified system admin for WAS 5.0.
Based on your information, I am working towards the DB2 DBA.
I hope you won't mind if I ask you some db2 questions in the near future.
Are you in Singapore or HongKong?

Thanks and Regards!
