Passed 484 with 91% yesterday. Following is my break-up:
1. J2EE Architecture: 90%
2. Web Component Development: 100%
3. EJB Development: 86%
4. Client Development: 100%
5. Connectivity Services: 81%
6. Assembly and Deployment: 100%

Exam was very similar to IBM's Sample Test (I scored 87% in the sample). A few questions are vague & you may have to pick the answer with elimination & best-guess. I completed the test in 50 minutes, spent the remaining time reviewing.

Used Head First EJB, SCWCD Kit and WhizLabs simulator for prep (average score on WhizLabs was 89%). Referred online articles on JAAS, JAXP, JCA, JTA, JMS for connectivity services. Total prep time...about a month.

Thanks, Nick. Yes...287 is next. How much of in-depth knowledge of WSAD does that exam require? I have the Kushner book, which sections should I concentrate on?

How much of in-depth knowledge of WSAD does that exam require?

IBM has changed her exam patterns for 287. In the past (for WSAD 4.0), it focus on how we use the tools, especially detail of GUIs and Wizards, to develop J2EE applications.

For 287, some of the areas are shared with 484, such as the concepts for EJB, Servlets and JSPs. Thus, you may find these topics easy, as you passed 484 without any problems.

For the WSAD related questions, there are only a few, around 15 to 20 questions (which is less than 50% of the total questions).

I have the Kushner book, which sections should I concentrate on?

Howard's book is the only book you need to have for passing 287.

Personally, I have focus on the admin topics of WAS, and how to use WSAD to simulate the WAS configuration. As I am familiar with those non-WSAD related areas, most of my time focus on WSAD stuff, which is the last 5 chapters of Howard's book.

Best luck for your ICED.

Nick

James,

I used the following resources for my preparation:
1. Head First EJB by Kathy Sierra
2. SCWCD Exam Study Kit by Deshmukh
3. Online resources connectivity services technologies (JCA, JAAS, JDBC 2.0, JMS, JTA, JAXP)
4. WhizLabs exam simulator for J2EE-484
5. Official IBM Sample test at http://ibmtesting.prime.prometric.com/

Of course, there's no substitue for actual experience. That's the best resource!

Good luck!

From the list above, I have both two books by Kathy and Mr.Hanumant as well as WhizLabs 484... What else I need? Online resources for the rest services technologies like JCA, JAAS, JDBC 2.0, JMS, JTA, JAXP....

Thanks for the guide...

Hi,

In EXAM 484 I was thinking what kinds of questions we get on JCA,JDBC,JAXP...it's more of scenario based or API Level, like i need to remember all or important interfaces or classes ?...

Regards,

James

Yes, you may be asked about specific interfaces & classes. You should have high-level familiarity with important interfaces in these technologies.
