Have you took the exam?

YES. I took the exam on 3 Sep 2004.

The exam is much more easier than 9i exams, as some of the difficult concepts, like tablespace decision, tuning issues, are automated by ASSM.

In addition, Oracle10g provides lots of Advisors for DBA to do their tuning. Moreover, there are lots of graphical views in Database Center for DBA to monitor the database. Some questions are asked related to these areas.

Hi Nick,

May I ask what you used to prepare for Oracle 10g exam? I'm still using 9i at work but would like to move our stuff to 10g soon. For 8i exam (long time ago my previous company sent me to training), 9i I borrowed friend's two training manuals from upgrade class but this time I'm at a job where no training $$, but more importantly, I don't know anyome who went to upgrade class (it hasn't been offered in my area yet anyway).

But if maybe you did it using other resources, I'd love to hear about what you did. Also, what is beta exam I & II? Oh wait, it must be for the two admin exams in series. Back in the old days there were 5 exams for OCP DBA (8i) and then of course I took just one for upgrade to 9i.

Thanks in advance for letting me know what materials you used to study.

Technical mannuals provided by Oracle Technology Network.

None of my friends have taken Oracle10g training, and thus, I cannot get any ILT materials.

Also, what is beta exam I & II? Oh wait, it must be for the two admin exams in series.

Oracle has consolidated the exam contents.

Admin I tests us about ALL concepts in the 5 Oracle9i exams, including SQL, DB architecture, Network, Backup, Recovery and Performance Tuning.

Admin II tests us concepts, settings, tuning in Grid computing environments. Thus, all questions in Admin II are of new style.

Back in the old days there were 5 exams for OCP DBA (8i) and then of course I took just one for upgrade to 9i.

I have taken the upgrade to 10g as well, however, I cannot make it by 2 questions.

As I see that the cost of taking the offically released 1z0-040 is higher than that of 1z1-042+1z1-043, I prefer take this 2 beta exams, rather than retry 1z0-040.

is there going to be a OCM for 10g or the current original OCM is good enough?

YES. After 1z1-043 concluded, Oracle will carry on to OCM beta.

I dont think so, as 10g focus a lot more on Grid, which OCM9i does not cover much.

I just got the manuals from the Oracle 10g New Features for Administrators class. A former coworker went to class and kindly lent me his books because he's not going to go for certification. If anyone's interested, I could post the topic areas on this site so as to help focus your studies....

I think I'm also going to be able to borrow the Sun Solaris System and Network admin ILT manuals so I can upgrade my certs from 8 to 9. I know the certifications for 10 will be out in a little while but we're still going to using 9 for awhile where I work and we're getting two new sun servers, also with Solaris 9.

I'm also working toward Apple Mac OS X System Administrator certification. I'm just going to "study blind" for them as there aren't any published books on OS X server if you can believe it. But the manuals on the Apple web site and hands-on experience should be enough I think. I passed the first exam earlier this week. This is the one time I can join all of you who say "I studied for two days and got my certification " ). I had a book that I read, and combined with my recent experience, it was all I needed. But it was just on the client side. The first test of four. But a certification is awarded at the first, second, and fourth steps. Had free vouchers for the four tests so I thought, "why not?"

Cheers.

Do you get OCP9i? If not, taking the upgrade exam is meaningless. Also, if you got OCP8i, that one (1z0-040) is not the exam you should take. You need to wait for the upgrade exam for 8i (1z1-045), which will be available after 1z1-043 concluded in Jan 2005.

Are you sure? What is the source of your information and is there any more detail on this.

I have never heard of Beta for lab exams - hence I am very curious.

Thanks and best wishes

I heard that from my friend who worked in Oracle. He said that there might be beta exam for OCM, but it might not be public offer. Thus, I guess maybe only Oracle staff could take part in the OCM beta.

I am already Oracle 8i OCP DBA (5 tests back in the day ) , Oracle 9i OCP DBA (1 upgrade test) and now need take only one test to be Oracle OCP DBA 10g. But I have many years as a professional Oracle DBA so that helps too...

I am also a Sun Certified System Administrator 8 and a Sun Certified Network Administrator 8. I need to upgrade to 9 in both of those, too. Then soon Solaris 10 will be out...
