Hi guys,
I have begun my java career few months back and gave my SCJP...I want to learn Oracle..just the basics as my aim is to become a Java developer who is reasonably good with databases. I want to give an Oracle cert that will help me become pro-effcient with the Oracle Database. Is the OCA exam suitable for me? I have very limited knowledge about the certs offered by Oracle so kindly advice me keeping in view that i do not intend to be a DBA but only need to prove my efficiency with databases.

Thanks and reagrds,
Smriti

I took and passed the 1Z0-042 test yesterday (Oracle Database 10g: Administration I). The test covered a lot of material. A few weeks ago I took the 10g Administration Workshop I class at Oracle University, which helped a lot. It was expensive though - $2500 (US). I'd recommended taking the class if possible.

Smriti,

You can go with DBA OCA, but it's a kind of certification for DBAs. There's a Dev track as well, read here:
http://www.oracle.com/education/downloads/appdev9i_cg.pdf
You may want to earn the Oracle9i PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate (OCA) if you work with SQL and PL/SQL.

Well done. :jumpingboy:

The test covered a lot of material.

I agree, this single test covers all objectives in the four 9i OCP exams.
But lucky that some of the questions are overlapped with 1z1-043.

It is too expensive, if we do not have any sponsership.

By the way, 1z1-043 is still live, will you go for it?

I may take it around the end of the year. I have to wait around 11 months before I can get my boss to approve another $2500 for the 10g DBA Workshop II class.

I guess the course fee is too expensive, and you might not really need to attend the class in order to pass the exam.

I feel that Oracle 9i Program with Pl/SQL Exam# 1Z0-147 will be suitable for me.
What are the pre-requistes of this exam?
How many and what all exams do i have to give before becoming Oracle 9i PL/SQL Developer certified Associate?
What is the difficulty level of the exam?
How long should it take (concidering i am a newbie) for me to prepare for this exam? - (just a rough idea...)

Thanks and Regards,
Smriti
