Which version of DBA you are going to achieve?

By the way, please do not use abbreviation so that other people can read your post easier.

I am a J2EE Developer and planning to get OCP by the end of April. Nicholas, I see in your list of certifications that you have attempted the OCP 10g exams. Can you give me some info about the level of toughness and preparation, for exams 1z0-042 and 1z0-043.

Thanks
Madhu

Oracle University's ILT materials are my only resources. The exams are not tough, as you can find all answers from ILT.

However, please note that, if you have not attended any Oracle University training courses or you have not yet be an Oracle DBA now, or you have not taken any Oracle9i exam before Sep 2002, even if you passed the exams, you will not get certified.

Nicholas,

you said ....

"However, please note that, if you have not attended any Oracle University training courses or you have not yet be an Oracle DBA now, or you have not taken any Oracle9i exam before Sep 2002, even if you passed the exams, you will not get certified"

I didnt get what you mean by this...To my understanding do you mean that even I write Oracle 9i exams I wont be certified..

Please clarify

Thank you
Madhu

Yes. Starting from 1 Sep 2003, anyone who does not take an offical course offered by the Oracle University will NOT get certified even he passed all the required exams.

If you manage to take the exam before September 1st 2003 you deserve more than just the certification...

In the past, Oracle said, for example, if you took 1z0-007 before 1 Sep 2003, but not all exams, you are still eligible to get certified even you have no taken any courses.

As my company paid for my Oracle training fees, and thus, I received the certification without any problems.

Also, other people suggest that, as the course requirement is only for Oracle9i and later versions, they rush to get Oracle8i DBA before 31 Dec 2004, and then take the upgrade exam. But now, Oracle8i has been retired, and thus, if you want OCP cert., course taking is a must.

But if you just want an OCA cert., what you need is to pass the exam only.
