Does the exam simulator (and J2EE exam!) require any knowledge of any specific versions of the application server?

the exams (and exam simulators ) test your knowledge of the spec.
not a specific vendors implementation.
Reading the EJB 2.0 spec was the most difficult read since college.

Actually, the difficulty for 484 is that you have to know lots of technologies. In addition to the core J2EE part, like JSPs, Servlets and EJB, you have to know JDBC, JNDI, JCA, JAAS as well.

Acutally, there are only 1-2 questions for this topic, so, you might not need to spend much time on it, if you solely focus on the exam.
