Experiences with OMG UML Fundamental and Testking?

Hi, I am prepearing for the OMG UML 100 Fundamental Cert. I found that Testking is offering a testsuite http://www.testking.com/UM0-100.htm . Did anybody here has any experience with that product or with testking anyway? At the moment I read the book: "UML 2 Zertifizierung Fundamental, Intermediate und Advanced" from Tim Weilkiens and Bernd Oestereich. I do not stick only to german books but this one looked very good.
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you soon - Stefan.

Testking should be a company that provides "braindumps", which we do not recommend you to use it.

Hi, Salman! What do you mean with share your experience? I think the book is good but I would like to do some kind of additonal mock exam or something like this.

Do you have an ideas why braindumps software is bad?

Greetings from germany.

Hello Nicholas!

Two questions: What is it so bad in using braindumps software?
Do you know this vendor: http://www.eplanetlabs.com/omg-certification-books.html

Thank you in advance
Stefan

It's not allowed. When you take an exam, you have to agree not to disclose any exam questions.
Braindumps are created by people who broke this agreement.

JavaRanch has a strong position towards talking about asking for real exam questions:

Hm, these products are legally available. Why are they so not vorbidden if they break the copyright?!?!?! Are there any other test simulators out there? For Java you get sooooo much.

Some definitions and comments on brain dumps:
Brain Dumps, Study Guides and Certifications
Wikipedia definition of brain dumps in exams context

Mikalai Zaikin's Magnet Mocker exams for IBM 486 helped me to understand how certification exams work, and what type of questions to expect.

I used The Unified Modeling Language User Guide book to prepare for the theory.

I'm waiting for the UML 2 Zertifizierung Fundamental, Intermediate und Advanced book to become available in english (my german is not that good). I will use it to study for the intermediate exam.

Good luck with your training,

Why they are legally available? There are lots of things that available but NOT legal, just copying machines vs book copying.

More importantly, if I got the real questions and correct answers before I take the exam, what is the meaning for getting certified?

Are there any other test simulators out there?

You may try Whizlabs, but I am not sure whether they have products on OMG exams.

I am not in favor of brain dumps. I hate wasting $200 on a failed exam, even more. Better to see what the real questions are like, rather than blowing repeated $200 because there are no practice exams(looked about a month ago).

I hope this will motivate practice exam companies to write an OCUP package.

I respect your point of view, however, it is not reasonable to use this as an excuse of cheating. Examiniations are ways to test your knowledge, if you really get the questions that are going to appear in your test, the test is then testing your memorization function, not your knowledge.

If you are not confident to take the test, or not well-prepared (i.e. taking the exam and fail), you should not go for it. I believe, including me, no one would like to waste $200, however, it really not an excuse to cheat.

Also, please note the Position on Real Questions of Javaranch.

I hope this will motivate practice exam companies to write an OCUP package.

I guess it would be difficult to be the motivation of the practice exam companies, like Whizlabs, as OCUP is not as popular as other exams, in which the demand is not high enough to cover the development costs. If the demand is high, like IBM 486, the practice exams are already there.

On my first several exams, I thought I was ready when I was not.
I ended up loosing $. Many of the developers that I have worked with have been coding Java for years. Because of their experience indicated that they felt confident going into the exam, but failed any way. I would think throwing way $ is much more common than most give credit for.

Fortunately I found practice exams for my other exams. Now I buy the practice exam when I feel confident. Unforutnately I am usually shocked at how over confident I was.

I have no idea how I'll practice for the ocup exam

Peter,
It might be somewhat more difficult, because so few mock exams are available, but on the other side, the scope and source for the exam questions are very well defined:
the questions are all from those parts of the UML 2 spec that are documented in the coverage map for the exam.

And you have our support.
