I'm not sure what you mean by "practical implementations". Do you mean having to write an XPath expression to get a particular node set from a document or to ID correct XPath expressions as part of the exam?

The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen all at once.

I used a tool called XPath Visualizer from www.vbxml.com to practice XPath expressions. If you are rusty on XPath expressions, I highly recommend making use of this tool to master the subject.
You should also be familiar with the concept of nodesets. ie., given a XPath expression, you should not only be able to determine the resulting node(s), but also their ancestors, parents, siblings etc.
This is one objective where you can score easily.
Cheers!

Anything is possible. It just depends on how prepared you are. Unfortunately I have no way of assessing your preparedness. Only you can gauge your stand accurately. If you don't feel confident, dont take the plunge in a hurry. If you feel good about it, go for it!
Good luck!
