This is from w3school quiz:
Which statement is true?
1) All XML elements must have a closing tag
2) All XML documents must have a DTD
3) All XML elements must be lower case
4) All the statements are true

only the statement 1) is true

Well-formedness Rules indicate that,
1.Every start tag must have a corresponding end tag
2.Element names begin with a letter such as y or A or an underscore _.
Thus <HELP>,<Book>,<volume> are all valid names irrespective of case.
3.For validation , I could use a Schema / DTD. To ensure that the document is only well-formed, I need not use either a DTD/ Schema
That is why, only (1) is true.
