141 has been retired. 142 is the only exam that is available now from IBM for XML.

Hi Theodore Jonathan Casser Thank you for reply. I have been working as Java Developer,I want to know what are the advantages of taking SCJP and IBM XML exams,I mean how they help in my career. Some of my friends are saying that there is no use of writing these exams I thought your the right person to answer this question,How they help in my career?.I am planning to take these exams in coming two or three months. I don't know why everyone asks me, just because of the alphabet soup in my signature here. ;) But, here goes, especially in light of the conversation going on in the JavaRanch forum about one of the higher-ups comments on certs. I have to agree with him - taken on their own, I don't think certifications are worth anything. They aren't, on their own, going to land you a job, get you a promotion, help you to live a happier life or improve your chances with women/men. However, that all being said, if taken in the context of being something else to help you discriminate between yourself and others in the marketplace, I think Certifications can be a useful tool to prove your knowledge and experience. They provide a proof that you have at least some minimum level of knowledge in a given field, and can help to give you that leg-up with an employer or client. (And, for reference, most of my IBM certs are either from when i was with my previous employer - an IBM partner - or are generic Java certs from them. My Sun certs are my proof of continuing education.)

I agree, certifications are useless without the right experience and it is not going to make you feel happier with your life or improve your career if you dont have sufficient experience either. Basically i am not happy with my life at all

what is the points of having all these certifications and experience when one can't even qualify for the interview process of a junior analyst programmer position at IBM?
