There were folks who commented that they'd failed earlier on, when the results first came out.

Personally, it's the only time I tend myself not to comment on how I did, though - failing's not something I'm generally proud of reporting. (Though this time, I did pass.)

Erm I failed .. 47% .. I went into the exam not reading a single spec or line in a book. I have however worked with webservices extensively mainly using apache axis. My main failing were basically around WSDL/UDDI/JAX.../SAAJ because I have yet to use these! The main problem I felt with the exam is that most of the nitty gritty stuff is normally abstracted out for you when dealing with webservices for example XML Schema is generated from your java classes so do you really need to know this! Oh well at least I got a sneak peek at the questions for when I really sit it.

This is a perfectly valid and understandable concern. Personally, I don't like working with a technology if I don't understand its underlying foundations and how the whole thing works and why it works the way it works... The fact that the available frameworks and tools abstract out the details does not mean you should not understand them. We can draw a parallel with pretty much any other technology. An EJB container does most of the transactional and persistency work on behalf of the EJBs, but this does not mean that the Bean Providers do not have to understand how transaction managers and databases work, or does it? If you are out there to solve problems using IT, it is always good to have some sound knowledge of what you are using, otherwise you might not be able to take important decisions at some point...

I failed (43%) but I was not expecting to pass.
I don't do xml or web services. My company has no webservices or xml.
We barely have struts, not even an EJB.

I had only read the W3Cschools tutorials and the most of the web services tutorial. I used the free beta exam as motivation to cram study, see what I could learn in 3 weeks.

My goal is to pass the web services exam and IBM 141 xml exam by year end.

from a prue novice view of J2EE webservices from space.
How are jaxb, jax-rpc, jdom, dom, all suposed to fit together?(I guess that is the intent of the exam)

OK, I finally gotten my score report from prometric today. Took some time for it to fly over to Singapore.

Horrors. Shocked. I got 67%. To be precise, it was actually 67.6%. It got rounded down. Passed in all sections but didn't cleared the last hurdle.

Failed with 52%. No previous experience or much of a clue of what a web service was until a few weeks before taking exam.

What helped me do as well as I did was knowing a bit about XML and design patterns.

Yep, should be retaking it. But not so early. Still got 2 exams to clear before I can start reading up on it again.

Hi Guys!

I also failed the JWS BETA with 61%.
I'm thinking of clearing the WCD first and hopefully the BCD
before considering a JWS retake.

I guess we'll just be waiting for your tips!

Congratulations to those who passed!

I hope by the end of this year. My project is killing me. Taking SCWCD in mid-September. Hoping to take SCBCD as well. Deciding between to retake SCDJWS first or take SCBCD fresh. Any comments?

Cheers!
