Why this exam is not so popular?

IMHO, knoledge of web services is very valuable on the market. Or it's just seems to be so unpopular?

I'll throw another idea into the mix... Of all the exams Sun has created in the last several years, this one was by far the most difficult to create objectives for. As you all know the standards are all eveolving quickly, and it's really hard to put a stake in the sand, when the sand dune is moving :roll:

Considering that it has just been released and that the SCJP and SCEA exams will be updated by the end of 2005, I'd guess 2006.

I agree with Valentin -

this one isn't going to be upgraded anytime soon...

BTW, I receive daily many emails from people who take (took) SCDJWS - so *I personally* can not say that exam is not popular

Although my preparation notes can definitely help to pass SCDJWS, it is not a replacement of other *great* sources, like: "J2EE Web Services" by RMH and "Web Services Blueprints" by Sun Microsystems.

Also, I highly recommentd to go through WS-I BP 1.0

Hi Robert,

Both exams are very new, so you can expect that Sun will not update them in 1..2 years.

SCBCD is elder exam (more than 1 year AFAIR), even it is not going to be changed soon.

So, you can safely choose one of them based on skills demand in your area.

maybe its because Microsoft started the webservices things with .NET first and now Sun Microsystems is trying to follow so it is unpopular.
I dont like webservices either and frankly i have no intentions of getting to know webservices

BTW, there is also IBM Exam for Web Services (AFAIR, 000-288)

P.S. And the main reason why Sun Microsystems did not release that test before is that Basic Profile 1.0 was released just recently, and without stanard not much use of web services, since main goal behind them is interoperability

I agree with MZ.

In fact, both 310-220 and IBM 288 are very similar and challenging. IBM focus more on how to use WSAD to develop Web Services applications, while SUN focus on the basic and details on Java Web Services.

In my opinion I believe "popular" word is very relative. The frequence/number of posts related to this exam on this site can help one get an idea of whats up with this exam.

I am in a confusion to chose which exam among IBM 288 and SCDJWS. I think that IBM 288 gives us how to work with webservices with Websphere while SCDJWS only concepts. Also does IBM sends a certificate in case we pass this exam.(As you know that IBM 486 has no certificate and is a prerequisite to IBM Certified Enterprise Developer, Is it the same with this too?)

You're right, SCDJWS - is vendor-neutral, IBM 288 - WSAD 5.1 oriented.

AFAIK, there is a paper certificate for 000-288, but Nicholas can confirm for sure

You can receive a certificate after you passed IBM 288.
