Would Sun Microsystems upgrade the SCDJWS exam to cover the J2EE_5 and the J2SE_6?

There hasn't been the slightest whisper of an update to the SCDJWS.
  • The SCDJWS may never be updated.
  • If the SCDJWS is updated it may only happen for a version after Java EE 5/Java SE 6.

  • Nobody knows...

The fact is that in essence Java EE 5 is still primarily a "Distributed Component Architecture" thats what current certifications are focusing on. The SCDJWS covers "SOAP over HTTP" interfacing and related technologies in the J2EE 1.4 context (think of it as CORBA for the web). It still has to be proven that SOA will be accepted widely (many people are talking about it - some say they are doing it - fewer are actually doing it). Once Sun has a concrete vision for Java EE/SE in the SOA space they may think about updating or replacing the SCDJWS. Then again "services on the web" could take a different route yet.
