I have seen this discussion come up in too many topics in this forum, I thought I would pass this information along.
When I went to JavaOne in May, I also attended the special reception held exclusively for people who are already certified in at least one of the Java Technologies. I was fortunate enough to meet Joe Boulenouar from Sun, who is very experienced in the training and certification arenas.
A few weeks ago I asked Joe about this very issue: When will the SCDJWS exam be upgraded for the new JAX-WS 2.0 ??? He was able to forward my question to Gary Fluitt, the Certification Manager, who wrote back on 7/22/07 and basically said that it is likely to be around the first of the year and that many other exams need exams need updating first.
Furthermore, one of the more experienced people on a different project where I work, is headed to Sun next week to help contribute to the re-write effort of the SCEA exam.
So it appears that Sun is moving forward to upgrade the Java certifications. We just have to be patient and the new SCDJWS will come.
Meanwhile, I am getting ready for it by using Marc Hansen's "SOA Using Java Web Services" awesome book. I think this was the 7th or 8th most sold book at JavaOne. I bought mine from Amazon. Although this may not be the best choice for what to use as a study guide for what COULD BE the new version of the SCDJWS exam, I think it is a great book for anyone wishing to learn all of the tools involved in SOA, considering the newer Jax-WS 2.0 and JAXB 2.0 specifications. He also gives REST a fair shake and describes the pros and cons. I highly recommend it. Please see http://www.soabook.com/ .
I hope this helps. Thanks.

SCWCD - Thanks to HFSJ!!
Why do you think I started seriously on the certs from the Evil Empire in the meantime? I need something to do when I'm not overworked.... wait, that's when?
I swear, I just need to become a professional exam beta tester...

Hi,
This is a good information for me as I was looking forward to clear this exam in near future. I haven't purchased the exam voucher yet. Should I wait for the new version or it doesn't really matter?
I hope I've explained my problem .

Bimal; Everyone has to make that call for themselves. In my case I am not in any big hurry to get the SCDJWS exam certification. Furthermore, I am fascinated by the newer JAX-WS 2.0 and JAXB 2.0 technologies. Plus, because of my lack of experience with SOA and Web Services in general, by the time I am able to "begin" studying, it is likely that the new version will have come out or will be close. So I am waiting.
I guess it depends on how patient you are. If you would rather get the SCDJWS certificate sooner, I can certainly understand. Although the new version of the exam will probably require us to know how to use the previous versions of the technologies to a large extent, I don't see a whole lot of companies jumping onto the JAX-WS 2.0 bandwagon yet. I bet the current version of the certification will still be very valuable for years to come.
Some others might be able to give you some additional insight.. [ August 20, 2007: Message edited by: Bob Nedwor ]

Thanks Bob,
I agree with you. For me, if I don't go for that right now, may be it is late in future. If demand is generated for the newer version, I am sure that Sun may come up with the upgrade examination for fewer $$.
Once again, thanks for your comments.

I'll try to get an update. At this point my guess, and really it's just a guess, is that the earliest possible update would be early 2009 - but frankly it could be later than that.

something to look forward to. i just hope the survey conducted by evelyn last month is related to the new beta. just like most beta before. it's almost always preceded by a survey.
