Now that sun's J2EE patterns are released where do GOF patterns stand in the certification. In some of the patterns there is a mapping done in the J2ee patterns and the patterns mentioned in GOF but what about the patterns where there is no mapping done ? Do we have to study them ?

Unless Sun has changed the objectives you need to know the GoF patterns for part 1.

The way i look at the whole bunch of patterns is
there are this basic low level patterns, which are the GOF Patterns.
what sun has published is a set of derived patterns, which are related to one or more other patterns. and those patterns have been suggested to be used in j2ee applications.
there is this other angle of looking at what patterns have been used in java and j2ee.
ideally we sud know everything irespective of what comes in the test, i am trying for that and good luck to u.
