Is there any need to clear Sun's Programmer , Developer exams before taking up SCEA.

They used to say that they were unrelated, and that you could get the architect cert without going down the programmer's route. In fact I know someone who did just that, got his Architect cert back in '99 without doing the others.
But, Suned has just reorganized their web site, http://suned.sun.com/USA/certification/java/index.html
The new site makes it look like there is a definite track of programmer -> developer -> architect. But there is nothing explicitly stating any prerequisites.

There are no prerequisites for the SCEA though that little diagram that goes from programmer to developer to architect might imply it.
