I too tried downloading the J2EE Design patterns from the sun site, I tried using Teleport which is an offline browser. Since these patters are avaliable as a part of java developer connection you have to log in and then see these Patterns, becasue of this login Teleport could not rip the patters for me to read offline.
Alternatively you could read the Design Patters which are a part of J2EE Blue Prints.
