In part two you are suppose to prepare a component diagram. It is a simple diagram but it is a 40 points diagram. The other two sections, class diagrams and sequence diagrams, count 20 and 40 points each. Is this strange? I am scared because my component diagram will be very simple.
Also, I hate Rational Rose. It is an expensive and primitive tool for drawing diagrams. I can put a interface in component diagram but I don't know how to let a component implement this interface. Does somebody know how to do this?
Do we need to get into the details of application client? I feel the assignment is not very clear. Does Sun want us to design a J2EE application in which travel agent will use Java application to access ejbs?

Java Pet Store Demo 1.3 has a JFC/Swing client application. If you follow it, propabily you will need a client application.

I am surprised to see somebody answering the question I posted a long time ago. Thank you for your reply.
I failed Part II. In order to pass part II, I need 70 points but I only got 54 points. (Class diagram 9 out of 40, com 25/40, and seq 20/20). In fact, I was shocked by the result. After working with J2EE for more than a year, I failed the certication exam. I should jump in a toilet and commit suicide.
I don't know what is wrong. So, I don't how to fix the problem. They don't like my cmp ejbs, I guess. I am certified programmer and developer. Architect will be my last certificate. After spending two months and 550 USD, I am obligated to get it done.
I failed for three reasons: first, a poor explanation of my design. The way I handle session with stateful bean is very confusing. Also, I used three CMP beans and they may not like them. In my work, I always use Session bean and SQL. Second, I under estimated architect exam, after I passed the developer exam. I lost 10 points on developer exam which lets me think that passing the architect exam would be easy. Third, I didn't go to the test center I used to go. I do feel bad luck starts from that test center.
After this frustrating experience, I start to question whether certification really worth the effort.

I am scared now ... I have not heard anyone failing part 2 & 3 so far. Well, I have heard only very few people attempting it.
Did Sun give you comments with the marks? Is that for not being 100% UML complient or because of the details? Also, does the mark include the part 3 test. Do you need to do both part 2 and 3 again? - It's a lot of money.
The mark in class diagram is very low. What do they expect? For my IBM-UML test I got 100% for most of the parts including class-diagram section. Still I am scared in attempting to submit this assignment.
Can anyone tell me which parts of petstore will be relevant to the assignment? Which version of petstore needs to be used?
Thanks,
Faisal

Hi Jun,
You have got 100% in the Sequence diagram section!!! I have few questions for you.
* Did you just have four diagrams for each itinerary?
* How do you deal with the <include>?
* How did you handle Pre and Post conditions in the usecases?
* How about special security requirements?
* Also about using points?
Are there any good sequence diagram resources that you have used?
Regards,
Faisal

Last June, Sun recensed only 200-300 certified Architect worldwide !!! It is really low number comparing to the large Java community users.
I'm not surprised. If you go through these forum, it is rare to find feebacks from successful people for part II&III ??!!!
Assignment instructions are clear :
<<marks are not awarded for right choices in design issues, but rather for an understanding of the issues involved and for a coherent argument leading to your choice. >>
That means if you don't clearly explain your different design choice....you may failed !!
A lot of people under estimates part II&III. As you can see, Class and Component diagrams count 40 points each. Sequence Diagram which is the consuming time tasks is only 20 points.
It is weird, isn't it ?? Why ? because Class and Component diagrams are the CORE of the assignment....
A bad score with Class or Component diagrams means your diagram didn't addresses requirements !!! maybe, you have put too much classes or you have forgotten some !!
Once again, I'm repeating the advices of Marc'Cade (Sun Certification Architect supervisor )during the JavaOne2001 Certification Architect conference :
Make your UML diagrams :
1-readable, simple
2-clear coherent explanation of your components
3-make assumptions

I agree with you but I think there should be a formal methology for creating architecture.
For the assignment we need to submit only 6 UML diagrams.
I think only UML diagrams are not enough to represent complete architecture. For example, webserver handles incoming HTTPS requests - this can be described only in words or deployment diagram - which is not required.

Here is what I get from the galton web site:
Test: Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition Technology Part II (310-061)
Date Taken: 2001-11-06 14:48:43.983
Registration Number: gc5dtt0b31
Site: iln
Grade: F
Score: 54
Comment: This report shows the total points that could have been awarded in each section and the actual amount of points you were awarded. This information is provided in order to give you feedback on your relative strengths on a section basis. The maximum number of points you could have received is 100, minimum to pass is 70. Class Diagram (40 maximum) .......................... 9 Component Diagram (40 maximum) ...................... 25 Sequence/Collaboration Diagrams (20 maximum) ........ 20

If you need to resubmit your assignment, return to the test history screen, press the 'Assignments' button, and follow the instructions.

I think I can spend another $150 and try again.

Hi faisal mahmood,
Don't worry about the stuff you mentioned, because those things are beyond my consideration. Give them the main stuff, it is fine.

The comments does not say anything useful.

Do you only need to pay for part III or for both parts?

Still you got 100% in this section without considering the things I mention!!
Surely you don't need to do this part again.

Faisal, you should start reading the SUN Enterprise Architect for J2EE pdf guide on SUN web site.
It clearly says that if you fail part 2 and 3 you will have to do part 2 again but not part 3, and it will cost you 150$
Regarding your question about the Registration # and the site, between us, I don't understand how that can help us to for the certification
Also we know that the feedback from SUN on your assigmement is pretty poor, basically it's just a rating with no explanation I guess they should give more explanations...
Cheers,
-Christophe

I would guess they did not like your EJB tier. Think about how you model this some more.

..also XML-RPC libraries exist, cut & paste from my explanation...
2) I have not specified how the TransmasterEJB communicates with the API. There are many XML-RPC libraries available
(Apache taglibs, Marquee, Helma, XMLRPC-J, others..) so would defer selection until some kind of evaluation had occured
possibly liasing with Transmaster as to if they had a prefered library.
