I have few questions about part 2 assignment. My assignment is about a flight booking system.

* Are there any standards like OFX for flight booking system? OFX is Open Financial Exchange - I did a 6+ million EBPP project recently.

* The question talks about performance issues, eg so many transaction per minute etc. How can you present them in UML?

* What is component diagram? Are there any resources on the web or any book available? I know about deployment diagrams - is component diagram same as component diagrams. I did not come across component diagrams when I did part I - very strange.

* Is only one class diagram and one component diagram enough? For me they carry 80% of total mark. How detailed do they have to be?

* I also need some sequence and collboration diagrams. How many do I need?

* Is that possible for any of the java ranchers to give the steps (starting on the web interface, etc.) they have taken to complete the assignment?

* How can I show the servlets and JSPs in UML diagrams? Do they belong to class diagram?

* What web resources are available that you have used or using?

I will post more questions later on this thread.

Thank you,

Faisal

Also, in my assignment spec it says that if I fail to follow any of rules will result in an immediate failure.
This is very scary - is there anything I should be careful of?

Yes you should be careful and follow what is stated to the line. I had problems in my SCJD assignment once when instead of uploading a readme.txt file I uploaded a readme.html file.
A huge problem I had.

Did you get penalised for it? Also, does readme.txt need to inside or outside the jar file you submit?

The SCEA assignment requires you to provide :
1 class diagram
1 Component diagram
4 Sequence OR Collaboration diagram (4 ucase)
The "Architect Certification FastPath" tutorial presents 2 case study. Each case study explains clearly how to draw Class Diagram, Component diagram, Sequence Diagram in terms of Jsp, servlet, EJB, UML stereotypes.
These document has been given at Javaone2001 Architect Certification Conference.
Sun expects you to provide READABLE UML diagrams and understand all the requirements issues. A right choice for a design issue without explanation has no value for Sun.

Is that possible for you to post the link for the conference document?

Sun expects you to provide READABLE UML diagrams and understand all the requirements issues. A right choice for a design issue without explanation has no value for Sun.

But all they want are those 6 diagrams. Do I need to include explanation? How depth do they need to be?
Thanks,

Last time I have posted a link for people who are interested (like you )to figure out what are the SCEA requirements...these link has been removed !!
I'm still wondering why ? ....because these link didn't contain any SOLUTION ....just the SCEA assignment objectives...
Sorry but I won't post the link about the right good UML compliant design diagram that Sun expects from you....because JavaRanch moderator might considered it as a kind of solution....

Even though the assignment itself is not termed confidential by Sun. But disclosing it publicly makes it lose some sanctity. I would agree with removing the link. The link was to the assignment istself and not to the objectives of the assignment.
I think people should raise the level of discussion- how to best implement a J2EE solution for the assignment etc.
Certification is not just about the piece of paper or a highlight on your resume- IMHO it is a lot to do with learning.

yes...but once again it will be considered as a kind of solution...
If tomorrow, someone (who made a great score at the SCEA exam) posts its best J2EE advices in terms of architecture design assigment....you can be sure its link will be removed!!

Even I came across the link and discussed with my friends working at sun. According to them sun cannot do anything legally in this matter(heard that positively sun is changing the assignments for both developer and architect from december). According to the sun's agreement you should not reveal or disclose the actual questions in any format. But here the person is not disclosing the actual assignment but revealing his designs(I doubt whether the author has the right to disclose them or not). More to this, one should feel moral responsibilty that he should not be a copy cat. Hope while evaluating the assignment sun will catch the allys?
But those who have already visited the link can use the designs as an idea for things that should be taken care while developing component diagrams etc.,(Try to understand between copying and aquiring knowledge about the concepts). So that it may be useful to the aspirants(please lemme know if i was wrong). That's why i am not mentioning the link.

I guess posting the link does not matter anymore... now the site you are referring to does not exist anymore.

Posting any useful link is fine as long as it cannot be used for cheating. Articles, tutorials, uml examples, faqs etc. - are okay in terms of resources.
