Hi all,
I am so happy! I thought the test would me more difficult due to those comments that there were very lengthy questions, with lots of vague answers. All wrong!!
In my language F is the 7th character but in english it is 6th,so,no questions had 7 answers. At most 6.
The questions are not lenghty.English is a foreign language for me, and I could go over the test twice and have time to spare.
The answers are precise and in fact if you read them very, very carefully you know which is right because the wrong answers don't make any sense(tip:a load balancer does not keep client session data ITSELF).
My score: I failed 4 questions.
everything 100% except:
Common arquitecture: 83.
Legacy Connectivity: 80.
EJB: 88.
I18N:50 (2 questions.I failed one.Tip o algorithms change in an internazional app?)
this is my short success story:
I bought my first java book(a basic one) August 15th this year.I read a tutorial on jsp servlets and ejb. I found out about certifications and bought Mughal book 26th September. 3 weeks later I passed programmer's exam . Then, 3 more weeks and I pass SCWDC . 5 more weeks(today) I passed part I.
Books I have read:
-UML distilled(Fowler)(don't read last chapter(implementation)
-Desgin patterns(Gamma).Read only upto consequences included.
-Java security(jaworsky).I didn't like it much but I learn about applet, public & private chryptography, digital signature, certificates,...
-Special edition EJB(2.0)(Cavaness).PERFECT book.A special chapter for jndi, another one for JMS(more than enough for the test) and much more than EJB.Much more than what you need for the test but I think that you all want to pass the exam and ... LEARN. Right?
And those links you can find in this page(load balancer, clustering, legacy connectivity,...).
I was so afraid that this test could be EJB 1.1 centered that I have read the 1.1 specifications(hating Sun for this). No need to do it.The test is 100% conceptual:when to use session bean instead of entity, and this kind of things.
Questions about these topics not in books that you really don't have much idea:legacy,clustering,...It is pretty basic. For instance: You have to interact with a legacy system only through the presentation tier.Which technology.Answer in John's notes.
Well I am heading now for part II and weblogic certification(websphere is more demanded but I hate IBM and Michrosoft).
Good luck!!!

Hello Eduardo Cobian,
Congratulations. )
Do you mind if I ask what other books you have used to study for Internationalization and Protocols sections specified in the exam objective?
Did you try any hands-on? What application server did you used to try out stuffs like EJB, security, etc.?
Thank you very much for the help.

For internazionalization I read a chapter on this subject of Advanced JavaServer Pages, because I had already this book from SCWCD, but it is quite similar to john' notes.
For the rest of things just the links people post on this forum.
I haven't been able to do any real practice as I don't know how to use weblogic, nor any app. server. It has been just theory.
I did lot of practice for the programmer and the web componenents test but none for this.
Now I am learning Weblogic to get certified (and because I need to know it).
Anything else just ask.

Hi Eduardo,
Were there any questions on Network architecture comparison, if so how hard or easier it is.

Congratulation !!!
It is so hard for me to study from 8am -- 8pm as you did. I just can't concentrate like that. What a great job you have done !! With zero experience you can pass with such a high grade in SCEA part I, you must be very smart and diligent.
If you don't mind, I just want to understand clearly how much time needs to be input: you said you study 10-12 hrs for 5 weeks for this one, do you mean you do this 7 days a week for 5 weeks ? or just on weekdays or weekends ?
Thanks,

questions on Network architecture comparison
Nothing that I recall now.
****************************
Regarding study time.I have studied 7 days/week for 5 weeks.
But it would have been only 4 weeks if I didn't have to book the test 10 days in advance and only fridays.
Moreover, it could have been between 3 or 4 weeks, but I thought the test would be more difficult so I wanted to make more or less sure I could pass.
Ciao.

for SCWCD I studied core jsp & servlet (Marty) but the book was for servlet 2.2 and jsp 1.1.In theory this month should be available a new updated edition.
I also studied advanced jsp.(also with old versions).
See my thread on the exam:
http://www.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=000457
About the time, it took 3 weeks studying the whole day.
for part I of architect I can't tell you more that what I have already said in this thread.Just to mention that I hope you have experience or the assigment will be quite difficult. I am very pessimistic about the project's result.
good luck.

Hi, Eduardo:
You refered to "John's notes" twice in your messages. What is John's notes and where can I find it ?
I apologize in advance. This is my first post. I just passed the SCJD exam this month and am thinking about taking the SCEA exam this year.
Thanks!

As far as I know, you can not go directly for the JCEA exam. On Sun's website, they said that you either take the SCJP -> SCJD -> SCEA route or the SCJP -> SCWCD -> SCEA route. So you have to take (and pass) a minimum of two exams before you're eligible to take it :-( .

Not true. You don't have to have any other Java Certification to take the SCEA exams.
