Hello, I would like to know about real life development environments. -Do people use Forte, Jbuielder or what tool I need to study.I have to say that I have a Jbuilder copy and I consider it worse than bad. -Application server. Related with previous questions. Is weblogic used at development at the same time you use Forte or similar products,or the app. server it is used at deployment time? -Are you supposed to be Database expert? What is the most common required database:Oracle,cloudscape,... -Do you use tools such as TopLInk? -How many technicall people are involved in a EJB project development? -I am thinking about get certified in XML.Is is demanded?? -Whatever you can think of related to these topics please. Thanks.

- If your machine doesn't have 256MB RAM, you should try other light IDE like JCreator. It's free. The lightest IDE for java, in my opinion, is TextPad. - most app. server comes with it's own deployment tool. - No, you don't have to be DBA level expert. But you must know RDBMS basics such as SQL, Entity relationship (ERD), etc. Knowledge of Transaction is a plus. - Number of people in EJB dev. depends on the scale of the project. - XML is really hot in today's distributed technologies. It's worth to become certified in XML field. Hope it helps. Victor

I'm not sure about IDEs. I would say people like IBM Visual Age for Java, Borland JBuilder and Oracle JDeveloper. As my personal preference, I like Oracle JDeveloper. But it should be used on 256+ MB RAM machine. Databases : I would say Oracle, Sybase and IBM DB2. But I think your targeted project environment size, complexity and performance requirement should be the main factors when you decide which DB to use. Personal preference : I like Oracle. I also like Oracle 9iAS J2EE container. It's fast!
