I managed to clear SCJEA Part 1 with a score of 83%. (40 out of 48 questions corrected, 8 wrong) The following summarize my thought towards the exam. 1) This test is clearly different from the orginal SCJA. The original test actually test factual "raw" data such as role of architect and explicit short scenario question. But in the new test, the questions are definitely developed by a true Java Architect. The questions is more practical and long-winded asking about application of EJB, security etc in the real application. 2) The UML and design patterns are relatively simple. But the EJB question which based on scenario are relatively tough if one does not prossess enough EJB and protocol knowledge. 3) There are a lot of scenario questions one had to approach carefully since most of the choice seem logical "at first". 4) In fact, for my test , less than 8 questions are from old exam. Majority are new questions. 5) Advice: Do not take the exam until you are knowledgeable about EJB and security, UML, design pattern. This exam is much tougher than rest of the java exams (SCJP, SCWCD) that I have taken so far as there no mock questions that are similar to the questions. 6) Those who say that they can pass with just common sense obviously had experience in one way or another or maybe god's will. I can truly say this exam is killer. (Not to scare you but it's true). Based on my instinct, this exam has a high failure rate. <:^{ I'm saying this not to discourage you but actually encourage you to be wellprepare as not to waste US$150. 7) Do not think that one is well prepared by doing the "mock" exam which may contains questions from original SCJA. The new format will shock you. 8) Formula Knowlegde + CommonSense = PASS anything amiss will result = FAIL. Now to proceed to part 2 .... Good luck to any potential SCJEA ranger !!! May the force be with you ... <:^}

My opinion is that John's note is very important to read since it pretty summarize what you needed to know in order to tackle the question especially the scenario type questions. Next, study about UML diagram, especially the following Sequence, class diagram are most important. YOu does not really need to have detail knowledge but just passable knowledge of UML and design pattern. The majority of exam test your ability to think over wide range of issues in coming out a solution. Word of Advice: Some of the choice are logically corrected but may not be correct implementation in practical world and violate J2EE implementation. Choose the answer that are of correct design rather than optimum design. and most importantly, do not study too hard and memorize a lot of fact. Majority test you on ability to think rather memorize.

I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
