Hi,
Srini Admala has written to me personally and the mail is given below.
Hi Rahul,

I just started out preparing for SCEA and felt the need for links page similar to the one we have for SCWCD.

I collected some resource links for my study. I simply put all the links I found in one page.
I think the ranchers on SCEA forum can use it and also can contribute further links. Please provide a links page whether or not my page is used.

Thanks,

Srini

I think having a "Resources page" is a very good idea.
The only downside is I can think of is that links to resources other sites should be verified every now and then to make sure the site hasn't died and the resource is still available.

Sounds like a good idea. I have a suggestion to add to that...It will be a lot more convenient if we have a separate folder for most commonly referred topics such as...
1. Views from those who have appeard in the exam
2. Links to materials --- Srini's suggestion
3. FAQs about the exam like the syllabus, study material, time frames, etc
It probably will take some work to organize the stuff into folders but it will surely make life a lot easier and browsing through this site a lot more convenient
Thanks

Adding on to my previous suggestion....
Organizing material based on the objectives will also neat... something like separate pages for EJB topics, UML topics, security topics, miscellaneus topics, etc,etc

Rahul, I think is the best idea yet.
Here are a couple of really cool links pages that I have found. Mostly on Design Patterns
http://www.meurrens.org/ip-Links/java/designPatterns/books.html
http://www.research.umbc.edu/~tarr/cs491/fall00/cs491.html
This one has OO tips and some UML, lots of information here

Thanks

The links page in the Web Dev Forum is a JSP - can we do/have something like that?

I think Angela Poynton and Rahul Mahindrakar are too busy. They do not have time to put it in a page. No offense.

Hi,
Burk :
The statement meant that I cannot format the code I put in my first post as HTML is not supported over here. Yes we can have a JSP if required.
Win :
Myself and Angela try to put in as much time as we can over here. Guess it is not enough. Any how with regard to this discussion I would like it to continue and once things have cooled down I will create the required page and put it up.
So put in links that you would like to have on a Resources page for SCJEA and I will filter it out (Obviously when I am free )

Actually it is not necessary to put a link page for me now. I got everything from the scea_j2ee yahoo group. Just in case some one does not know the discuss group in yahoo. That will be nice for them.

Rahul,
Thanks, I appreciate the job you're doing - I'm pretty sure they don't pay you to do this ...so maybe it isn't out of line to say - would you like some assistance? I know we're *all* busy with work and/or preparing for one certification or another, but if it isn't too complicated maybe I can help with the JSP (I've written several for various projects) after all, I think if I'm going to ask for something I should be willing to assist in makign it happen.

Rahul,
I wacked out a quickie based on the Web Developer's Links page and emailed it from work a few hours ago - you'll need to insert whatever header and footer JavaRanch deems appropriate, but it should work.
I was working kind of quickly so there may be a typo or two - I'm sure the other folks here in the community will let me know so I cn correct them.
If nothing else, it's a start.

What about the two classic EJB books (both 9-10 horseshoes IMHO) of Ed Roman and Richard Monson-Haefel ?

Good catch! I don't know how I missed those two.
Rahul,
Would you like me to add them to the original page code, or just send a piece to insert?

Because they are THE books IMHO (i've read both of them twice ...) and when we strive for details, sometimes we miss the mountains ... a common design problem
Don't forget to mention that Ed Roman's one is available from download at www.theserverside.com, and that there are excerpts of Monson-Haefel's book available at Amazon's :
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0596002262/qid=1016660288/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_67_1/104-6434292-9879926
By the way: thank you very much for the links page - a very, very useful resource!

Thanks! I'll be sure to incorporate the links you mentioned.
While I'm at it, I may try to organize the books a little. You know, group similar books - that sort of thing.
And since I'll be doing that, anybody interested in suggesting other books?
I'm guessing Mark Cade's SCEA Study Guide should be there - even though it hasn't been reviewed - since he was one of the exam authors.
At last night's Atlanta Java User Group meeting, I picked up a draft of the Java Design Patterns Workbook - I'm only a few chapters into it, but I intend to add it to the list as well. It's great! Keep a lookout for it when it hits a bookstore near you. Takes the GoF patterns and explains how you might use them in Java - while making you think about how to use what you know of the language. That description diesn't do it justice - I'll have to come back and edit it later... I wanna get back to the book itself.
Any-who... if you guys have other suggestions, let me know. I'll keep sending Rahul updated versions fo the page as I manage to create them...

I almost forgot... you'll note that there are two links to Simon Lee's web site.
Simon's posted those links here several times - and I think there very useful - but I failed to ask him for permission before putting them on the page so if any of you happen to be Simon, or talk with him on a regular basis, would you mind asking him if it's ok? And if he says yes then tell him "Thanks!!" from me and all the rest of us who benefit fron=m his hard work.
Thanks. And in case you're Simon... Thank you!

Burk,
lets wait a while before making new updates. We can have a list of all the things we want updated then we can start working on it. I would also like to add a small FAQ below in this page.
There are some errors in the page too.for example the link to the sun site points to the web component developer not scjea.
We got to collect some basic questions for this FAQ.

Hi Burk,
Linking to my pages is absolutly fine. 'Knowledge should be shared not hoarded', I really must find some time to tidy some of the pages up, and I want to add some more info on part 2 somewhere..
I don't know what people think of my mock part 1 exam? As far as I know it's the only one that is similar to the actual exam.
At the moment I am downloading Oracle 9i (>1Gb) and preparing for Oracle 9i DBA (I've given up on 8i ).
Switching topics slightly, the hunt for work is still on (http://www.x-nt.com/interview.html), another interview on friday but the salary is oh so low .

Simon,
Thanks for sharing with us. BTW, are you in the Atlanta GA area? My company is looking for senior Java people - particularly those with J2EE (read EJB) experience - and there's at least 2 architect positions open.
Ths URL is http://ChoicePoint.net - look for the "join us" link - it may be called something else now, but it should be obvious.
I know this message is off topic, but I think we (Java Architects and soon-to-be's) need to help each other, particularly with the economy as it currently is... Hope I haven't offended anyone.

Rahul,
I know they have in the past - I've seen the required notice posted. It just depends on wheter they can find qualified folks locally, I guess.
If you're interested then I'd recommend submitting your resume to the HR folks via the ChoicePoint web site.
