Can the gurus comment on how much to read for the following and what to focus on specifically( for Part I only ) Protocols Security Internationalization There is a plethora of information in the links and other resources. I just don't want to spend more time than what is necessary. Any help/pointers is greatly appreciated.

Ajith, My views below... Cade's book ia a good summary for most topics. Read that end to end. Protocols - Read up the PDF (avail in the files section at SCEA PREP) Security - Netscape's papers on PK Crypt, SSL, 3COM's paper on firewalls, Java 2 Security tutorial (SUN)... Internationalization - Cade + I18N tutorial from SUN. HTH.
