"CORBA only moves the state of an object but RMI moves the object's behavior as well"
Is this "behavior" above a passing by reference ?

For RMI "behaviour" stands for the code that is passed too, not only variables (called "state").

I've been reading my free downloaded copy of Mastering EJB 2.0
Appendix A is a nice short discussion of this issue. I believe, Roman uses the analogy of pass by reference to to exporting the behavior.
