I recently get a evaluation copy (30 days) of Rational XDE from mail. It is huge and slow. Did any one use this product for the part II? I cannot get it to draw the sequence diagram. I'n not sure if my installation has problem or they block the support simply because it is for evaluation only. Modeling publish doesn't seem to work. It said it cannot connect to eclipse. Rosegrapsh is looking for Rose but not XDE. Any help is welcome.

What does "XDE" mean? How is "Rational XDE" different from "Rational Rose"? Kevin

I don't know much about Rational's products. I requested this CD simply for the SCEAtest. I got three options: 1) Rational XDE java platform for WebSphere Studio Application Developer. 2) XDE for .net 3) Rational Enterprise edition. Since I have installed WSSAD, I requested 1). But it is incrediblly slow. If I hit a wrong key, it will take 20 minutes to recover. This is why I'm asking which product I shall use for the test. There are at least 50 diffeent prodcuts offered by Rational. Each one seems related to UML. Shall I just simply use Rational Rose? "XDE" means I guess just one of IDE's.

XDE is IBM's WSADD with a modeling perspective added by Rational. It's built on an older version of Eclipse (1.0 I think) so you don't get any of the Eclipse 2.0 features. If you already have WSAD 4.03 then you should be using the XDE for WSAD version. What you are getting is the modeling features of Rose with the IDE features of Eclipse (at least IBM's version of Eclipse). IMHO Rational made his move to combat what was becoming a strong TogetherSoft TogetherJ presence in the market. XDE gives you a little better GoF Patterns support than Rose but I still favor Rose since it is primarily a modeling tool with some code generation capabilities. The place to go for support is www.rational.net also note that Rational is offering free web based training on the web site for XDE - I've went through, not great, but it'll get you, modeling and operational.
