I am just about to prepare for scea, but i'd like to know whether scea will be revised in the near future because this version of exam has been out for quite a long time and they Sun are making changes to scjp and scwcd, so is there anyone that has some hint? or any voice from Sun?

Hi Yi,
Back in February 2003 Sun were looking for people to do their "pre new exam survey" for SCEA based on J2EE 1.4. They requested candidates for the beta test around April 10th 2003, then cancelled it (see same post) within a week or two. In the words of Kathy Sierra from that post:
the exam beta has been cancelled because the new exam has been postponed until sometime after the new specification is final.

J2EE 1.4 was finalised late last year (December if I remember correctly). So that means that Sun might start looking at the beta sometime soon. My bet would be on June - July this year (that gives everyone 6 months to get used to what's new in J2EE 1.4). But that is just a guess on my part.
Regards, Andrew

in that case, i'd better just wait for the new exam objectives to be out instead of finding myself get an obsolete cert after long time preparation.
Andrew, how do you think?

Andrew is right. Start preparing now. Certifications taken after August last year don't become obsolete. They had something about mini-certifications to upgrade previous certifications but I don't know what happened to that. Personally I think this decision confused everyone even more.

I am not SCEA. But would suggest to go for the exam now and upgradation later on instead of waiting for new J2EE 1.4 exam. June-July is guess work, If beta will be out in June-July then exam would be available begining of september. If I am not wrong then SCEA J2EE 1.4 means waiting for aroung 9 months.

Hi Yi,
I agree with HS Thomas and Sanjeev - go for the qualification now.
As HS Thomas says, certifications do not expire, so you will not have an obsolete certification. And it is quite probable that when the new certification is brought out that Sun may drop one or two topics from exam in order to make room for the new topics. So those who have both old and new certifications will have a broader skill set than those who only have one certificate.
And as I orignally noted (and Sandeev reiterated) - my guesses are just guesses - only Sun know the real timeframes, and so far they have not told anyone.
