Perhaps this message is a little off topic - but it's not in the sense that I am very much hoping to find a good tool for completing my assignment.
I here that many people on this board particularly like working with Poseidon. I was really enamoured with it, having used Rose and visio previously, until I got to its sequence diagrams. I can't stand the way manages sequence diagrams.
For example, it always wants to put a colon after the message name - well, at least I have been unable to supress this behaviour. It also seems to gives you almost no control over layout - ie activation bar vertical sizing and operation positions. Its a shame because I was so happy about how much better it was than Rose at doing class and deployment diagrams.
If anyone can suggest a good alternate tool that is easy to use with an eval licence I would really appreciate if you would let me know.

Hi Sean,
Don't know why no one is talking about Together. (Or am i missing it?) Here is the link to download a trial of it http://www.borland.com/products/downloads/download_together.html
Luckily, i have a licensed copy of Together. I think Ill stick to it. By the way, can i use Together for the SCEA assignment? Is it accepted by Sun?
Thanks
Dushy

Ultimately you need to produce a jar with HTML files in it with Assumptions, Coponent Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams and Class Diagrams. As long as you can accomplish this with Together I can't imagine why Sun would not accept it.

Hi Dushy
One quick question about TCC. I was using it 6.0 two years ago and found that it has problems with JDK1.4, some dialog boxes just disappeared. Now TCC is 6.1 and from Borland's website it is still using JDK1.3. I don't like 1.3 because it is very slow with TCC. Does TCC 6.1 run well with with 1.4?
Best Regards
Frankie

Hi Frankie,
The answer is. I dunno. I am still using JDK1.3 with the Together. Its a bit flaky, but i have not tried it with JDK1.4 or higher. But with a 2.4 Ghz machine and 1Gb RAM, the performance is not too bad.
Thanks
Dushy

I was thinking of Visio, but one of the members of the ranch alarmed me that Visio is not 'strictly' UML compliant.
Any thoughts on that?

I believe, but am not sure, the point about Visio being non-compliant is that Visio is quite flexible and it allows you to add elements to a diagram that are not compliant with the standard.
Another reason that people might try to disuade you from its use is that its a product of the Evil Enterprise and Java developers often seek any alternative.
