Pre-requisite for Enterprise Architect

Hi all

I am looking to move to Enterprise architect arena.
My background is WebSphere based J2EE development and EAI tools like MQ Series.
When I apply for above postings they tell me that I do not have Architect experience.
ie. why I need to get the position to build my skill in this area.

Could someone tell me if I take SCEA test , will I get at least an interview?

Alternatively what should be the strategy to change a Developer to Architect ?

I'm of the opinion - and this is just me - that while certifications are great for showing a minimal level of knowledge, they aren't something that necessarily will get an interview. For many positions, they want to see that you have experience with the technology or concept in question, and that is often better shown through tasks than certifications.

That being said, I think that getting your SCEA certainly can't hurt with trying to land an architect job.

The best way I can think of to change from a developer role to an architect is the same way you move into developing - practice. Take on tasks as part of development, step forward and volunteer, to help with the architecting of projects and let it evolve naturally.
