Could someone tell me
when we should use IDL and when we should use RMI-IIOP?

Use IDL: when there is an existing CORBA server with IDL interface, that should be accessed from a java client.
Use RMI-IIOP: there is a Java RMI server or EJB, that should be accessed by a CORBA client.
