I am starting to work on my SCEA2. I wanted to check with folks out here what application servers would be a good choice for developing the EJB application for SCEA part2. I have used jboss in past, but their current EJB support uses jboss properitary code, and i want to use plain vanilla EJB 2 deployment. Any suggestions?

You don't need to implement your assignment for part II. You can use Reference Implementation provided by SUN or their app server provided freely with NetBeans IDE.

Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) - Version 1.3.1 Release
Look for the Download icon under Download the Software for the Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition 1.3.1.

J2EE 1.4 SDK (Includes Sun Java System Application Server PE 8.2)

GlassFish Open Source Java EE 5 Application Server (and SJS AS 9.0 PE)
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
