I am planning to give SCEA certification in coming month. SCEA covers EJB also in it's syllabus. I agree that this exam contain many other valuable topics. Now EJB 3.0 is coming in a market and SCEA is still not updated with that version. EJB 3.0 is actually chaning many of the thigns in EJB world, so with this old syllabus what is a value of SCEA. Is it worth to wait for new version of SCEA exam, which will cover EJB 3.0 iin syllabus? Please let me know your comments.
For starters, it's going to be a while before any of the Sun exams incorporate EJB 3.0 (as, from what I can see, Java EE 5 still is in beta and not GA). I believe - I could be wrong - that it's been mentioned that the other Java EE tests won't be updated until 3Q06.
That being said... I think that there's still quite a bit of intrinsic value in the SCEA, despite the fact that it does need an update. While the Part I only addresses the older version of EJB, you're free to use any version of Java EE for Part II, which would let you architect a solution using EJB 3.0 if you so chose (I imagine). Since we've also no idea when an update to SCEA may or may not come, I don't know that it's really worth "waiting" for it to happen..
Just my $0.02.
