You become a RanchHand automatically once you have 30 posts. Currently you have 12.

How does one then become a bartender or sheriff?

I think the standard answer is "Pre-frontal lebotomy" (sp?)
The JavaRanch FAQ used to have a section that stated Bartender positions are available either by invitation or by putting your hand up, but realistically it is only by invite (feel free to put your hand up people, it costs nothing to be ignored ).
Sherrif positions are even more restrictive. There is no process. If Paul decides we need another Sherrif, we get one

Thanks for clarifying.
I would like to ask you that can't be here another title between 'ranch hand' and 'bartender' which could be as per the seniority level such as someone passes the 500 or 1000 posts (which you can decide), he/she should be entitled with another title.
I think this would be more motivative.
Thanks, regards

We are limited by the software to the titles we have available. The idea behind them is that UBB supplies 4 titles. "A brand new member" - "a regular member" - "a moderator" - "an adminsitrator". Other than the "thrill" of seeing yourslef advance through the ranks (as if this was some army unit) additional titles would really serve no purpose. The "greenhorn" title is so everyone knows you are a new user and can make you feel welcome. The "ranch hand" is what everyone is. The other titles are for the people who maintain the site.

Hmm, sounds like a typical developer rationalizing the limitations of their application system and making it sound like a "good thing."
Not that I have ever done anything like that mind you.

Fewer titles can also reduce the noise of people just posting for the sake of "advancement" and nothing else.
